After menopause, Barbara had gained weight and she was struggling to lose the weight gain. She exercised and ate what she believed was a healthy diet, but the weight she wanted to lose was not coming off. She heard about the low-carb diet and decided to give it a go. This is her story:
I'm 57 and live in the UK. I took early retirement at 55 after looking after my mother who died from dementia. On the day of retirement, I weighed 82 kilos (181 pounds). I had gained weight (10 kilos, 22 pounds) during menopause, despite exercising regularly and trying to eat healthy.
During the first year of retirement, I lost 6 kilos by increasing my exercise and dieting. In July 2018, I went on holiday and the "before" photo was taken.
This picture was after the 6 kilos (13 pounds) loss. I really needed to do something. On my return, I had a visit from a friend who had changed her eating habits and joined Diet Doctor. There was also a programme on TV about people with diabetes and low carb diets. It was inspirational and I decided to give it a go. Since July 2018 I have lost 13.5 kilos (30 pounds), dropped two dress sizes and feel fantastic.
I'm never ever hungry, don't miss sweet things and always feel satisfied.
I was concerned about my cholesterol level. But that was taken in March of this year and was 4.2 (normal <5), all other reading fabulous.
I 16:8 intermittent fast a few days each week, but only if I don't feel hungry in the morning.
I tell friends it's not a diet; it's a way of eating. They are astounded at the change, but some are still dubious.
My BMI is now normal but would still like to drop another few kilos, my target being 60 kilos (132 pounds). I never thought I'd ever get to 62.5 kilos (138 pounds) without a starvation diet and here I am, thanks to your support and guidance.
Hope this story helps others.
