I guess this post is more for my ginger sisters, or any of you who like me, are allergic to the sun & struggle to tan! Its something I've always struggled with both physically & mentally, I long for tanned skin but the only way I can obtain this is by the bottle. So, fake tanning is always a must before and during holidays for me & I always like to start by having 2 or 3 two minute sessions on the sun beds. I just want to stress, this isn't something I do regularly & I am well aware how bad it can be for your skin. But I only do this to prep my skin for the harsh holiday sun, because if I didn't I would most certainly burn all over.
It's an odd concept but it's something my family doctor recommended after I was still burning with factor 90 sun block a few years ago. & low & behold, after a few very short sessions on the sun beds before holiday, I suddenly stopped burning all over!? - Holy shit!
I also treat myself to a top notch spray tan. I know it's odd to turn up to your holiday already tanned but honestly, I'm not going to get one naturally so I like to start brown to avoid strutting the pool looking like Casper the friendly ghost! I also tend to take a gradual tan moisturiser with me too, like the Garnier Body Summerbody Moisturising Lotion. This one in particular mainly because of the smell, its a lovely fresh apricot fragrance & it's a great 2 in 1.     _______________________________________________
Sun, sea, sand and spray tans don’t generally mix, but by following some of these simple tips, you may help to maintain your tan throughout your holiday. So as promised above, here are a few top tips to keeping a spray tan intact on holiday:
  • Moisturising is an important tip for maintaining your spray tan, so using an SPF will work double duty by moisturising your skin and protecting it from sun damage. Also, applying sunscreen before you take a dip is another great way to guard your tan as it will help to create a protective barrier between your skin and the water.
  • Exfoliation is the fast-track to removing your fake tan. So, after you emerge from the pool or shower pat your skin dry rather than vigorously rubbing it with a towel. If you will be spending time on the beach, always lie on a towel to prevent your skin from being exfoliated by the sand.
  • In any hot climate, you should be careful to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Not only will this stop you from becoming dehydrated, but it will help your skin to retain moisture and keep your spray tan nice & healthy.
  • & again, packing a gradual tanning product  like the Garnia summer body lotion in your suitcase will not only keep your tan topped up & gorgeously bronzed, but also keep your skin soft & smooth.
So I hope you've enjoyed my post on ginger tanning problems! I'll be putting all these tips to the test in October when I jet set off to Marbella with Creature, so I'll do a follow up post on how effective they are at keeping fake tan fresh.   Do you have any tips & tricks for tanning?   Bloglovin | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram
