Halloween on a Budget

By Bambileigh

For me, halloween symbolises a time where it’s okay for creeps to go out dressed as clowns and murder people, so I tend to stay indoors. And when I stay tend, I mean I lock myself in the bathroom all day… a slight exaggeration, but you get the picture.
The actual reason behind this post is simply to make myself feel like I’ve done something productive. This way when someone says “why have you spent hours looking at halloween costumes if you’re not doing anything?!” I can say that I did it for your benefit. Being the selfless human that I am, I know that money’s tight (and when I say tight… I mean we’re all skint) and I know that you need a bit of help finding a cheapish costume.

So, if you’ve decided that you want to put last years costume to shame (I saw you covered in loo roll by the way…) then carry on reading!

I love Matalan at the best of times, but I never knew that they did costumes too! I should have known really. They also have some pretty snazzy decorations!

Mummy – £15
Kids Werewolf - £12
Dracula – £20
Unisex Pumpkin – £7

If you live in the UK you’re probably well aware of the purse friendly treasures that can be found at George, Asda’s clothing range. They also have a larger range in the decorations department than Matalan. And how cute is it that they have costumes for dogs? Cute or weird… I’m still undecided.

Weird White Dead Dress – £16
Swamp Zombie – £16Ragdoll – £12
Spider Tabbard – £8
Doggy Witch Dress Up – £4

If you’re not going to dress up the whole family and are just planning on taking the little ones out for a couple of hours before all the rowdy teens come out I highly suggest that you head over to Party City. They’re a little more pricey, but if you’re only buying the one costume you may want to take a look. And the brilliant thing is that they do a ton of costumes that aren’t halloween/spooky themed at all, so they’re reusable!

But you know the problem with halloween costumes? The sizing. If you’re over a size 12, and therefore ‘plus size’ you’re not allowed to dress up. HA!
Party Delights have quite a large range of halloween costumes, so you’re guaranteed to find something you like, and the great thing is they have a great plus size section! For women AND men! They’re prices are from £13 to £45 so you’re able to stick to your budget (wait ’til you see some of the costumes though!) and they’re sizes go up to a 22!
I’ve bought from them before and obviously you get what you pay for, but if it’s only for one night it isn’t really a big deal! And it’ll be dark anyway!

Black Haunting Ghost – £33.95 (!!!)
Day Of The Dead – £29.99
Zombie Footballer - £30.00
Wicked Witch – £12.99

“Oh thanks Bambi Leigh, that was really helpful! What would you go as?!”

How kind of you to ask! ;) I’d go as a zombie! I know everyone does, but I’d go all out. I’d get me some liquid latex and face paints to make myself look reaaaaally disgusting (ahem). I think if you go as a zombie it’s more about the face and special effects than the outfit!

I hope I’ve given you plenty of choice, or given you a bit of inspiration if you were a bit stuck! What are your plans this halloween? Comment down below and let me know!

SIDE NOTE - I am not being paid for this post! All the websites and costumes I have featured above I have done so because I want to. As I’ve said above, I have actually bought items from at least one of the companies. All views and opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
