HABS: Offensive-zone Puck-possession Percentages in Game 1 Versus Boston

By Kicks @Chrisboucher73
Puck-management is about making the necessary plays in order to gain, and maintain puck-possession in the offensive-zone. This post will communicate how well each player performed managing the puck. The graph included displays the percentage of all events (defensive and offensive/ all zones) each player engaged in while in possession of the puck in the offensive-zone. Those with a higher percentage spent more time with possession in the o-zone. Consequently, they spent less time defending in the defensive-zone.
As a team, the Habs spent far less time with possession of the puck in the offensive-zone against Boston than they did versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.
As a group, Habs d-men also spent less time with possession in the offensive-zone against the Bruins than they did versus the Lightning. Francis Bouillon, and Andrei Markov were the only Montreal defensemen to produce similar o-zone possession-percentages against both Boston and Tampa Bay. Josh Gorges had the lowest o-zone possession percentage against the Bruins.
Habs centres also spent less time with possession in the offensive-zone than they did versus the Lightning. David Desharnais' o-zone possession percentage was actually the lowest among Habs centres. This tells us that Montreal's top offensive-zone possession player in each of the last 2 seasons struggled creating offense.
Wingers also struggled maintaining possession in the offensive-zone against Tampa. Brendan Gallagher produced the lowest o-zone possession percentage among wingers, with Travis Moen, and Thomas Vanek only slightly better.  The top o-zone possession percentage was produced by Rene Bourque; who also had the highest o-zone percentage during the Tampa Bay series.
