Habs: Obstruction and Undisciplined Penalties Per-minute Played

By Kicks @Chrisboucher73
This post will focus on the number of penalties each Montreal Canadiens player has taken per-minute of even-strength ice-time. This data includes only those games that have taken place since the Olympic break.
Obstruction penalties include any penalties taken for hooking, holding, tripping, or interference. George Parros leads all Habs player's in obstruction penalties taken per-minute played. Other players with a substantial amount of obstruction penalties per-minute include; Lars Eller, and Brandon Prust. Alexei Emelin leads all defensemen in obstruction penalties per-minute.

Undisciplined penalties include any penalties earned for slashing, cross-checking, roughing, or unsportsmanlike conduct.  Not surprisingly, Prust and Parros lead all Habs players in undisciplined penalties per-minute played. Ryan White leads all centremen, while Jarred Tinordi leads all defensemen.

This graph represents the number of obstruction penalties each Habs player earns for every 1 defensive-touch (less is better). In this situation, a defensive-touch is defined as any attempt to remove puck-possession by way of a stick-check or body-check. In theory, the higher the amount of penalties taken for every 1 defensive-touch, the more likely that player is to take a penalty when attempting to remove puck-possession from the opposition.
George Parros leads the team in penalties per defensive-touch. Lars Eller leads all centremen in this category, while PK Subban leads all defensemen.  The best defensive-player in this category are those players who average the fewest obstruction penalties per defensive-touch. Within these parameters, Ryan White is the Habs most disciplined defensive-centre, while Brian Gionta, Dale Wiese, Alex Galchenyuk, and Travis Moen are among the most disciplined defensive-wingers. Among d-men, Josh Gorges, Jarred Tinordi, and Mike Weaver are the Habs most disciplined defensive defensmen.

These reports can be produced for any player at any level. All that's required is video. Feel free to contact me by e-mail with any questions, comments, or inquiries about the services I provide.
