The people wait patiently. This is a big moment for almost everyone. All eyes rest on one little furry creature's lair, anxiously awaiting Mother Nature's answer to this question: will there be 6 more weeks of winter? And just like that it happens. The Washington Post breaks the news...
And so it will be. Six more weeks of winter. As a southern Californian this is great news although I'm sure many people across the country would have preferred the opposite. Whatever the seasonal forecast case, isn't it fascinating that we have a holiday celebrating whether a little furry creature sees his shadow or not?
February is quirky with the 28 day and leap year thing so this celebration fits right in. We have been following this little groundhog since 1887 (apparently) and he seems to be right 80% of the time which is pretty darn good. More evidence that Mother Nature almost always seems to knows best. Groundhog Day- a great little holiday that lets us all be a little kid like and even inspires some cinematic gold...
Speaking of kid like, another cool thing about February 2nd is that it is National Frozen Yogurt Day! (Yes, it is actually an official day)
One of my favorite treats, frozen yogurt seems like it should have a national celebratory day a little later in year (spring or summer) but we will take it when we get it! The family and I headed off to our local fro-yo shop and enjoyed a little free treat, happy to celebrate with all the other yogurt lovers out there.
We are off to a great start so far in February...
Thanks for reading, have a great day!
