Greg Preston and The Great Machine: Hate To Love The City

Posted on the 01 September 2011 by Hctf @hctf

Early Sixties UK pop and USA surf have made a lasting impression on garage band Greg Preston and The Great Machine. Their 4-track EP Hate To Love The City hits the listener over the head with rough and ready riffs, razor sharp rhythm and angry vocals. The Hamilton band even named one of their songs Zoot Suit, after a track by The High Numbers (who later became The Who).

Hate To Love The City is a breath of fresh air. This is what get when you go back to analogue courtesy of producer Michael Keire (Wildlife, Dark Mean, Apostle of Hustle). Check out the zooming bass in In The Details - that's raw power jumping right at you, with a jaw dropping freak-out guitar coda a la Syd Barrett to boot. Cramps fans will dig the dirty surf vibe of Leave The Light On. Somebody offer these guys a break on putting it out on 180 grams vinyl. Play really fucking loud.
