Hello everyone! It's Laila (who else would it be, lol). I don't how many people are actually reading this, but today I wanted to do a little heart-to-heart.
As of today, Townhouse Palette (the blog) will be going on hiatus.
Now there are many reasons why I am going on hiatus, that I will share later. However, it is important to know that this hiatus is will most likely be indefinite, but it's NOT FOREVER. So let's dive into why.
I have been blogging for almost 6 years now (in December). I started this blog during my 8th grade Winter vacation. In less than a month, I will be starting my sophomore year of college.
So I am definitely not a novice, not only when it comes to blogging, but also the beauty influencer/industry.
I have always loved makeup.
In the 6 years of blogging, I have never really doubted that.
I think it's the direction beauty blogging/vlogging in the past years has gone which has me a bit shook.
When I was in elementary school starting middle school, I was in love with Michelle Phan and Bubzbeauty's videos. There was something really just inspiring, energetic, and fun about their videos. I genuinely learned tips from them not only about makeup but also on life.
But now their beauty channels have officially run its course.
If you are familiar with the top percentage of today's beauty influencers, you would know a lot of them are enveloped in drama. It's a bit shocking when I compare YouTube in Bubzbeauty/Michelle Phan's prime to what it is now.
When it comes to blogging, I have been in a constant rut. I think it has a lot to do with me just always worrying and stressing about the future and what I want to accomplish. And being home for four months having nothing to worry about or do made me think a lot about the future.
I see bloggers who start who get 1000+ followers in the first year of blogging, and although I am very grateful for all my readers and supporters, it feels like I am not performing as well as I should. It feels like I am at a standstill or stalemate if you will.
I think I need to take time off to improve my skills especially my writing.
In high school, my plan was to do my undergrad and then after, attend makeup school. Now that is still a plan, but I am also thinking of graduate school. Then working for a beauty company.
I have also been thinking about makeup artistry and doing freelance makeup on the side. However, I am also afraid to stab someone in the eye with a mascara wand, you know how it goes.
I think my end goal career wise is to work in the beauty industry. Whether it be a blogger/influencer, an artist, or just PR for a beauty company. So, I have been thinking about what steps to take to get there and what direction I want to go. Cause under the subject of working in the beauty industry, there are a million things I can do!
However, even with all my concerns (sorry for the little rant above), I am ready for a change!
Michelle Phan said something that really stuck with me all these years that I want to share. The universe has three answers to your aspirations: yes, not yet, or I have something better.
So I think it is time to take a chance and try something new! The new change will have to do with all my social media accounts.
For Instagram, I am going to be changing my account name from @townhousepalette to @laila.riaz and turning it into a full makeup account. I plan to post my makeup looks and some more makeup flat lays I have been working on. You can follow me here!
For Twitter, I am going to be quite honest and say that I am only on there for the free entertainment. However feel free to tweet at me so we can talk. You can follow me here!
For Bloglovin, I will still be reading my weekly blog feed, so I will still be very active on there. You can see what I am reading here!
For Pinterest, I will be extremely active, I absolutely adore Pinterest so much that I customized my boards. You can follow me here!
For this blog, I will definitely be updating you guys every few months about what is going on in my life. I owe to my loyal group of readers who have been following me.
That is about it.
This year I will be searching and applying for internships and I am thinking about a study abroad program. For the graduate schools, I want to apply to, I need to have super high GPA along with a bumping resume.
Please follow me on either Instagram (here) or Bloglovin' (here) to be updated on the next time I post on Townhouse Palette.
(I like how this post turned from a heart-to-heart into a shameless promotion for my social accounts).
Writing the rough draft of this post was so easy, but now, ten minutes till it is supposed to go live gives me a heavy heart.
Hopefully, I will be back and better than ever!
Happy Tuesday ^_^
