TEST WHERE YOU ARE ON THE ISSUES OF THE DAY

This is not simply another video of a cute kid playing golf. It is a very important test of your persona and where you stand in the golf world. Check it out:

Now, what was your general reaction?

  1. Aww, what a cute little kid!
  2. This little guy has a future in this game!
  3. Hmmm, this confirms my suspicions: golf retailers put the holes in a little depressions so putts go in so they can sell more putters.
  4. Big deal, I bet there are whole farms in China now where this kind of training is going on.
  5. Goddammit, that little bastard is cheating with an anchored stroke!

If you answered the last one, we can squarely put you on the side of the USGA and R&A.

Being the relatively new father of a 12 month old, I have obviously become a softie in my old age: my initial thought was #3.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT - PART ONE

Well, it's been everywhere but here it is. We've made a little fun of the number one ranked golfer (everything seems right again in the golfing universe) because of his recent acting, but Tiger is good here. Clearly the production values and budget for EA Sports is greater than Dick's Sporting Goods.

As we noted on twitter (follow @theteesheet!), it may seem like a parody until you realize the Merry Mex is the same age as Chuck Norris (73), who essentially played the same role as Trevino here in the movie (I would call it a film), The Expendables II.

Granted, The Expendables II is tongue in cheek. It has to be considering:

EA Sports The Rumble

Tiger Woods (age 37)

King Arnold (age 83)

Trevino (age 73)

Nicklaus (age 75)

Ballesteros (deceased)

Jones (deceased)

Average Age: 67

The Expendables II

Sly Stallone (age 65)

Governor Arnold (age 65)

Norris (73)

Willis (58)

Van Damme (career effectively deceased)

Lundgren (ditto)

Average Age 65.5

Thus, give EA Sports extra credit for managing to make Arnold and Trevino's age part of the joke ... considering the golfing cast is actually about the right age for action movies these days.

THE COOL YOUTUBE VIDEO MUSIC FORMULA (AND TRY THE DARK SIDE OF THE GREEN EXPERIMENT)

Here's pretty cool little video from what appears to be a company called Nonfairway golf (which Tiger just calls "golf"). Kinda fun and impressive that they got all their friends to come out and cheer them on.

We certainly do miss golf and sadly, this could have been filmed in the US northeast just a week ago. Alas, spring appears finally to be springing with emails coming in about course openings and of course, the Masters around the corner.

Now, while the dramatic music is funny at first, it seems the ubiquitous YouTube hipster high-energy music can really help a video. Maybe make it go from nine thousand hits to nine millions? While I'm not claiming to have discovered the Dark Side of The Rainbow, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon connection with the Wizard of Oz, but try starting the WeMissGolf video above on mute and then immediately start the canyon rope-swinging video below with audio on. It works ... and wooo, I feel like a Red Bull! Now there's a video ready to go viral!

GROIN SHOTS AND HEAD TRAUMA

While the entire "FAIL" videos and Internet meme has been played out, there is something admirable about someone going through the effort of putting all of these golf-related disasters (somewhat tenuous connections at times involving only golf carts) together and then adding an annoying song.

Consider it the Adam Sandler movie version of golf videos. It may prove comedian/podcaster Adam Carolla's rule about comedy movies: if there is a lot of head trauma in the trailer, the movie is garbage [I would add groin trauma too to this rule].

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT PART DEUX

Speaking of over the top sequels, Sergio Garcia made the shot of the week with a reverse trunk-balance one-hander, which turns out to be a golf shot not a gymnastics maneuver. He also stuck the landing.

The burnt out Sergio also had an injured should and withdrew a couple of holes later. Unless Garcia wins a major at some point, the biggest concern is that it will become his most famous tree-related shot. The 1999 PGA Championship is now closing in on 14 years ago. With no majors to date (despite the excutiating close lip-out on 18 at Carnoustie in 2007), that shot in 1999 becomes less the "introduction of the great Sergio" to simply a cool shot from a good young golfer. Let's hope it ultimately is the former.

WEATHER, SPRING IS IN THE AIR AND LOCAL NEWS

Tiger's Monday finish was never really in doubt but did make for a duller Sunday afternoon on television. The cancellation Sunday did appear to be reasonable.

Despite the weather in the Northeast, spring is on the way and the Masters only two weeks away. And of course warm weather also means ice cream. Ice cream!

For those too young to recall, ice cream analyst Chris Webber was channeling some classic Eddie Murphy (back when he was funny) in his narration. Well, this guy may not get much love later in the evening. This is a tenuous connection, but one of the funniest videos of the week on the topic of loving was this local news gem via SI.com's Extra Mustard.

REAL SPRING PREVIEW - MASTERS TEASER

Tiger's back to number one and winning at Torrey Pines, Doral and Bay Hill again. He's now a heavy favorite now for the Masters.

It's no lock. By the time he tees it up April 11, it will have been over 8 years since his last Masters win. The last time he won Bay Hill and the Masters in the same year was over a decade ago in 2002. Since 2002, he's won at Bay Hill four times (2003, 2008, 2009 and 2012). In those years, he did not then go on to win the Masters. In fact, for those years he won at Bay Hill, Tiger has only one one major later in the same year, the 2008 US Open.

Of course the first time he won Bay Hill and then go on to win the Masters was in 2001 and he completed his Tiger Slam.

LAST SECOND PHIL

Didn't want to wait until next week's GVOTW so added this last second video of Phil with a bit of magic with the wedge. Hopefully, this took fewer takes than the Tiger/Arnie/Trevino video.
