Glamping in Scotland

By Lisagray @juicysatsuma
For the past five days I have been glamping at Aldroughty Woods in the Scottish highlands with Mr Juicy. We decided on a summer staycation this year since we’re moving house next year and trying to save pennies. Despite the midge bites, compost toilet and having to boil your own hot water for the shower, it was still a fantastic few days.
Our yurt had a comfy double bed and a wonderfully cozy wood burning stove which kept us warm on cold nights. There was only a very small electrical generator which powered a laptop but not a hair dryer or hair straighteners. I was initially devastated by this but I soon learnt to cope!

We had BBQ’s, toasted marshmallows over a fire, road bikes to the beach (yes we have beaches in Scotland, who knew?) and visited some Scottish landmarks which were full of lovely Japanese and and American tourists.

Our favourites were Cawdor Castle which is cited in Shakespeare's Macbeth and is still home to the Dowager Countess Cawdor and Culloden Battlefield. Culloden is the site of the last battle fought on British soil and if you’re interested in history at all (especially kings, queens, treachery and all that stuff ) then you would love it.

Has anyone else been glamping? what do you think of the concept of camping in comfort? Does it spoil the experience or just make it more pleasant? I doubt I could have survived five days in a sleeping bag inside a freezing tent!
