I have put together this little guide on getting the perfect 'Girl next door' look and to make you all happy, I've used drugstore items, meaning not only will your mirror reflection thank you, but so will your bank manager!
SO! ignoring the double chin - girls, even makeup can't hide my chubby chins! LOL! The look we're going for is flawless dewy skin, rosy cheeks, basic eyes with slightly winged eyeliner and a nude lip.
For the hair, I just used my straighteners to add a few random curls throughout my hair, the important thing for the relaxed look is to keep the curls loose and sweeping away from the face. Make sure you start your curls a few inches away from the root to ensure you don't get that tight ringleted look. Did you know I once tried to pull off ringlets? Oh yes...I looked like I had an afro. Afro + round face = FAAAAAIL!!! haha!
Anyways, here's the products we're using to create the look! You can of course use substitutes of whichever products you have!
To apply my foundation, I used a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and really gently just buffed this into my skin, ensuring I get an even coverage without looking cakey - BTW just as a little tip, I recommend this brush for foundation above any other brush, I absolutely LOVE it.
Once I have my foundation sorted, I let it sit on my skin while I do my eye makeup. I then use a fluffy brush and pat some Kiko eyeshadow across my lids - the color is pinky and bronzey and is just the perfect 'girl next door' eyeshadow! Once this is done, I blend the edges a little bit and then move onto eyeliner.
You will see from the picture that I have slightly winged out eyeliner that only starts are the outer corners - so the best thing I can suggest is using an eyeliner pencil rather than liquid liner or liner pen and I first tightlined and then just extended out and up slightly - I then used a pencil brush and just blended the liner a little bit to make the edges less sharp (I am SO bad at describing things - It's a wonder I'm a blogger!)
I then added a couple of coats of mascara. The one I used was from Maybelline.
I then went in and did some concealer, using my Collection concealer and just went over any dark areas or blemishes and then finished this by sweeping some translucent powder across my face - I always use the Rimmel Stay Matte powder for this - this beats ALL the expensive ones I've tried hands down!
I finished the look by using some Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake. TA DAAAAAA!!!
The girl who looked like she had been hit by the door, now looks like the girl next door! Makeup really is a life saver! ha!
Do you like the girl next door look?
