Get to Your Happy Place

By Crossstitchyourheart @TMNienaber

I’ll be totally upfront and honest with you, the only reason this is the title of my post is because I’ve got a magazine add with the words “get to your happy place” on it right in front of my computer desk and didn’t want to spend a lot of time trying to figure out what to call this post.  If you’re interested I also have a sock monkey wearing a mini hoodie from my university on my desk, a rainbow bright doll, a paragraph from “The Sillymarillian” (parody of the Sillmarillion.) along with post it notes of what I have to do this week on my wall (or wall-adjacent).

The student teaching is going really, really well.  I’m still a little nervous about everything but so far things have been going great and I feel confidant I will get through this without making a fool of myself.  So that’s one less thing to be stressed about!  I’m about half way through “Play Him Again” which is my book of the week and I’m hoping to have it done by Friday, although with the way my reading schedule has been (non-existent) I’m starting to doubt that will happen.  I’m going to have to carve out some reading time or just wait until I’ve gotten a few of these extra things off my plate.  Once the grad school stuff is done I think I’ll have less extra stuff to worry about.

I have been trying to keep to a 30min-1hr of cross stitching a day though, and that seems to be moving along at a nice pace.  Here are my updates of the week!

This pattern does not lend itself to close up shots.  I’ll still show them to you, but it just doesn’t look detailed enough to look good right up close.  I have to step away from my frame and look down on my project to see what everything will look like once its framed and on the wall.  I don’t think I’ll be getting patterns from this place again though.  They’ve done a great job putting together the kit, but I think the pattern itself leaves a lot to be desired.  The ship (you should see Deep Space 9 Station in the background) are barely visible and it’s hard to tell what the face looks like.  Not to mention the blue swirls are a little ambiguous.

As you can see things are greatly improved with some space, but still not great.   I want to see what it looks like finished before making a final judgement, but I’m just not too thrilled.  Then again I am comparing it to the all xstitch designs of Heaven and Earth designs, which are the best of the best.  So I might just be too picky.

I’m a little surprised I managed to write almost 500 words in this post.  I thought it would be shorter.  But there you have it.  Make some time to stitch and read today!  I’m looking forward to the weekend.  I fully intend to lay in bed and read for at least three hours Saturday.
