Get Fit and Be Happy: My Health Philosophy

By Carolyn @CarolynHeintz

When it comes to living well, I have a basic set of guidelines:

1) Moderation is everything.

  • Don’t deny yourself something you love in the pursuit of health. This doesn’t just mean food; moderation is vital in every aspect of life (i.e. work, relaxation, America’s Next Top Model marathons…). The key is to set limits for yourself and respect those limits.
  • Life’s too short, eat that cupcake.

2) Exercise does NOT have to equal punishment.

  • Do you hate running? Me too. I used to force myself to run on the treadmill and, as a result, had negative associations with exercise. Then, I found these yoga videos on YouTube. Not only was a getting an awesome workout, but I loved doing it! Now, I exercise everyday and actually look forward to pulling out my yoga mat in the mornings.
  • Whether its dancing or rock climbing, find a physical activity that you actually enjoy and exercise will become a more meaningful part of your day.

3) Be proactive.

  • Don’t wait until it’s too late. Prevention is the best way to combat future problems down the line. So take your vitamins, consider preventative screenings for serious health problems like heart disease, and be actively aware of any changes in your body.

4) Smile!

  • Is this cliche? You bet it is. But it is also  the most important part of my philosophy. Play with your children, watch a funny movie, go for walk, whatever–be grateful that you’re alive and smile about it! It’ll boost your mood and your health. Happy people live the longest.

Peace, love, and health,
