"Anderson, Locke face off in Interleague tilt
By John McGonigal / MLB.com | + 2 COMMENTS
Don't be surprised if Saturday's 4:05 p.m. ET tilt between the Pirates and Indians at PNC Park is methodically defined by ground ball after ground ball as Cleveland's Cody Anderson takes the bump.
It's a small sample size, but Anderson has induced a combined 23 ground balls in two career starts, both against Tampa Bay. In those outings, the 24-year-old has surrendered just one run and eight hits in 15 2/3 innings.
Additionally, the Pirates rank fourth in the Majors in total ground balls hit this season, and their ground-ball-to-fly-ball ratio is 1.04 -- second-highest in the league.
Pirates starter Jeff Locke, meanwhile, has also induced double-digit ground ball totals in four of his past five outings.
Things to know about this game
• Locke has never faced the Indians, but he has gone 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA in eight career Interleague starts. That includes a 1-0 record and 3.75 ERA in two outings against American League teams this season.
• Despite never facing Cleveland, Locke has squared off with one Indians hitter before: outfielder Michael Bourn.
On Oct. 1, 2012, Locke started against Bourn and his former club, the Braves. The speedy outfielder managed a hit and walk in three plate appearances.
• After Friday, the Indians have now scored first in five consecutive games. This run follows a three-game series against the Orioles in which the club managed just three combined runs.
