"olphins struggled with protection, stopping the run vs. Titans.
A look at what the Steelers will be up against on Sunday afternoon against the Miami Dolphins:
GROUND AND POUND: The Titans turned 41 rushing attempts into 235 yards and a touchdown in their 30-17 victory over the Dolphins last Sunday in Miami. Quarterback Marcus Mariota carried seven times (often on scrambles) for 60 yards, including a 5-yard TD (designed keeper). Running back DeMarco Murray wore Miami out in a more conventional manner.
The prowess of the Titans’ ground game was obvious on a 12-play, 76-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter. Tennessee took over at its 24-yard line and ran the ball nine straight times (one was a Mariota scramble) for 71 yards all the way to the Miami 5. A 10th consecutive carry was stopped for no gain but the damage had been done (an incomplete pass broke the running-plays streak and was followed by a 5-yard touchdown pass).
Tennessee’s 5.7 average per carry went a long way toward the Titans winning time of possession (36:44-23:16).
The Dolphins went nine deep along the defensive line and were seemingly never able to control the line of scrimmage when the Titans had the ball. Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh played on 64 of Tennessee’s 70 offensive snaps and had one tackle. Dolphins defensive end Mario Williams played 53 defensive snaps and had zero tackles.
GETTING AN EDGE: Whether by design or because it was there, the Titans consistently attacked the edges of the Dolphins’ defense. Bounce-out runs, counters, quarterback keepers, bootlegs and passes to the flat all seemed to achieve the apparent goal of getting outside on Miami and then getting the ball up the field.

Mariota was also able to repeatedly escape the pocket when pressured.
BEEP-BEEP SPEED: Rookie wide receiver Jakeem Grant, a sixth-round pick from Texas Tech, took a punt back 74-yards for a touchdown that briefly achieved a tie for Miami at 7-7. As Grant caught the ball at the Miami 26, the closest Titans in coverage were 9 yards away. Grant gave a little ground on his way to the right sideline, turned up the field outside the numbers, cut back inside to avoid a tackle at the Tennessee 43, cut back outside to elude another defender at the 32, ran through a tackle at the 30 and was gone.
In all six Titans seemingly had a shot at Grant.
They all wound up diving and grasping for air.
Grant can fly, he’s able to change direction at speed and he can seemingly sense pursuers approaching from behind.
UNDER SEIGE: Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked six times and plastered on his release on a couple of other occasions.
The Dolphins started Billy Turner at left tackle (for Branden Albert) and Dallas Thomas at left guard (for Laremy Tunsil) and it didn’t go well.
Tannehill’s second interception of the day occurred on first-and-10 from the Miami 43 when he was blasted by Titans defensive lineman Karl Klug and a fluttering pass wound up being picked off by safety Daimion Stafford.
Assessed CBS analyst Steve Tasker: “Klug walked through the left guard and the left tackle by himself. That’s not supposed to be possible in the National Football League. And today it’s been commonplace.”
Turner and Thomas were released on Tuesday.
Right tackle Ja’ Waun James (19th overall pick, 2014) has also been struggling in pass protection this season.
Tannehill has been sacked 11 times in the last two games.
HANGING AROUND: The Dolphins have had their issues but they’ve been in games in fourth quarters.
They led, 10-6, in the fourth on Sept. 11 at Seattle but lost 12-10 on a touchdown with 31 seconds remaining in regulation.
They trailed, 31-24, with 6:06 left in the fourth on Sept. 18 at New England and lost, 31-24.
They trailed, 19-7, entering the fourth quarter on Sept. 29 at Cincinnati and lost, 22-7.
And they were within 24-17 entering the fourth quarter against the Titans and lost, 30-17."
