Good morning hockey fans. Tonight the Pens will battle the Maple Leafs in Toronto's Air Canada Centre. Toronto opened the season with a heartbreaking 4-3 home loss to rival Montreal Canadiens, giving up the winning goal in the final minute of regulation.
Here are some game notes to get you ready for the action...
The Penguins play their first road game of the season against the Toronto Maple Leafs (TV: ROOT SPORTS; Radio: 105.9 the X) at Air Canada Centre.
Prior to losing their first road game to the Florida Panthers last season (6-3 on Oct. 11), the Penguins had won five straight road openers.
Pittsburgh is 20-18-8 all-time in road openers.
This marks the third time in club history that the Penguins have played their road opener in Toronto. The most-recent time was Oct. 14, 2002, a 5-4 Penguins victory. Mario Lemieux and Aleksey Morozov had two goals and two assists each. Current Penguins assistant GM Tom Fitzgerald was in Toronto’s lineup that night.
On Oct. 16, 1968, the Penguins and Maple Leafs tied, 2-2, in Pittsburgh’s first road game.
The Penguins are 5-3-1 in their last nine visits to Toronto.
