Four tips to clean your make up stash by Alex

If you are just like me and you are very passionate about make up, then I suppose that you are having the same struggle of finding your favourite lipstick or eyeshadow shade because your make up stash is overflowing with tools and products. Well, I suggest you to take a deep breath and follow these four steps to clean and get your make up bag in order.

Clean and disinfect your brushes and sponges

I know that using a clean make up brush is important to maintain the good condition of my skin and improve the application and I follow this rule religiously. However, I don't feel like washing my make up brushes every week and this is why I just put them away and bring out the clean brushes until I am left with a set of 30 brushes which will take quite a lot of time to be cleaned.

Well, if you are just like me, I can assure you that there is no better time to clean properly your make up tools than the time when you decide to re-organize your entire beauty stash. I usually use a baby shampoo to wash my brushes and sponges and I let them air dry overnight.

Let the big purge begin

This step is the most essential for the proper look and re-organization of your make up bag. Look at the expiration date of your make up products. Anything that have been bought long time ago, smells funky or looks unusable, should be thrown away. If you don't remember when you bought a lipstick, then it is time to say your farewells. Keeping old make up products will not only contribute to the messiness of your stash but it can also be harmful for your skin and health in general.

If there are items which are still safe for use but you don't feel like using them in your make up routine, you can donate them to some of your friends. This rule does not apply for mascaras, however. The powders and bottled foundations are products which you can safely give to your friends.

Re-organize your make up stash

While you are cleaning your tools and looking through the piles of make up products that you have, you will definitely come across products which existence you have completely forgotten about. To make sure that this doesn't happen again you can re-organize the products so that you can have an easy access to them and use every item in your make up bag. This way your favourite nail polish or eyeshadow will be always before your eyes and you won't forget about it.

You can organize the products for your eyes, separately from those for your lips and the ones you use for the face. This way you will know where to look for that particular lipstick that will go perfectly with your make up look.

Bring some eye make up back to life

As some cream eye shadows or gel eye liners can dry out with time, you can easily restore their creamy consistency by adding some coconut oil or vitamin E. However, this trick doesn't work for every make up product. Once the mascara dries out, you better throw it away. After all, eyes and the skin around them are way too sensitive to risk harming them by using an old make up.Follow these four steps and I guarantee you that your make up stash will look well-organized and you will be able to make your make up routine easy again. Do this stash cleaning more often and next time it will take you less time to organize your beauty supplies.
