Fitness Mantra Mania

By Fitfulfocus @fitfulfocus

Picture this: You’re in a spin class. You’ve been going strong for 30 minutes or so. You’ve sprinted, you’ve tapped it back, you’ve kept up with the beat of the music. Then it’s time to finish out the class with some hills. You turn up the resistance. Right leg. Left leg. Huff. Puff. All of the sudden, it feels like you’re spinning your way through quicksand mixed with tar mixed into a vat of honey. Just when you feel like your legs can’t go anymore, the instructor yells out, “The pain is temporary! Get there!”

“Yes!” you say to yourself (or out loud, no judgements here), “she’s right! The pain is temporary. I can get there!” Right leg, left leg, right leg, left leg. You power through that hill and finish strong.

Don’t you just love the power of a good fitness mantra? Those little words that have the incredible ability to turn that frown upside down and get you through the toughest of the tough. I’m a big fan of the mantra. The right one really does help me through a workout when all I really want is to throw in the towel and throw myself on the couch with some House of Cards and a big tub-o-popcorn.

I was curious to see what others out there chant to themselves (or out loud, again – no judgments) to power through mental or physical burnout, so I asked around, compiled my faves, and am now bringing you: Fitness Mantra Mania! Take a gander, find a mantra that suits you, pin it/print it out/write it down/get it tattooed onto your forehead (or not, whatevs), and get to it.

My mantra of choice is:

What’s your fitness mantra?
How come no one’s mantra involves wine? (Do it for the wine!)
or pizza? (Will work(out) for pizza!)
