Fitness Friday: Random Fitness Thoughts and Active Nation Day

By Fitnspicy @fitnspicy

This is one of those what’s on my mind posts. Warning, it’s going to be random! It was a pretty light fitness week. With sinus issues going on there was quite few days of rest,  I can’t do hot yoga until next week, and I was reminded why I don’t workout at night.

Workouts This Week:

Monday: Off

Tuesday: Very slow cardio!

Wednesday: Cardio and Weights

Thursday: Off, really sore from Wednesday’s workout

Friday: Off. I could not get out of bed this morning. I had my alarm set and everything ready to go, but when that alarm went off at 5am I just couldn’t do it.

This was one of the lighter workout weeks I’ve had in a long time. At first I was getting down on myself about it and then I realized I’ve had 6+ months of dealing with sinus issues, I really wasn’t feeling very well. It’s ok to take a break. The gym and yoga will be there for me next week. What really matters right now is getting back to 100%. Feeling like the Mellissa who leaps out of bed at 5am and can’t wait to workout. I will get back there!

Getting to that idea day that looks a little like this:

Just add in some dog snuggles and wine and I would call that a pretty good day! And when I feeling down about this past week I remind myself that I”m not here to be average I’m here to be awesome.

Let’s talk about morning workouts vs. evening workouts. There is a reason that I get up so early and get my workout in…Crowds. This applies to both the gym and yoga, because there is nothing I hate more than not having enough room to workout. I want to get in and get my workout done. I don’t want the person next to me in yoga to be so close that I can’t properly do a move and I want to be able to head to the weight room and do my workout. Waiting 5 minutes for the squat rack or a bar just doesn’t work for me. 5 minutes of rest between sets just isn’t necessary!

The morning workout crowd is much less chatty, yes we are friendly and smile and say hello but there aren’t those lengthy conversation while you hog a piece of equipment. It’s 5:30 am people are there to get in and get to work.

What I am looking forward to this weekend? Getting back to the gym and celebrating Active Nation Day on Sunday. What’s that? Active Nation Day is a movement created in 2012 by Lorna Jane to help women live an authentic and active life. Lorna Jane has some of the cutest workout clothes, she just launched a great fitness app for motivation and a great way to track your workouts and there is something fantastic about encouraging the world to get active. If you aren’t following Lorna Jane, do it! She has an amazing cookbook and is incredibly inspirational.

I’ve been loving the app (it’s available for iPhone and Android) and there are some great recipes, motivational quotes and I love that it’s geared towards women. Check out the app and make sure you get active on Sunday for Active Nation Day.
