Fitness Friday: Pre & Post Workout Nutrition

Yeah it’s Friday!! I am ready for a fun filled weekend. A few events with friends and some time to relax, it is much needed. I am also hoping to check out a few new fitness classes. With a soon to expire Groupon for a yoga studio near me I need to use this up and they also have Barre classes and a few other new to me types of yoga.

Workouts this week:

Sunday: Off, I was heading home from Omaha

Monday: Cardio and Weights

Tuesday: Off

Wednesday: Cardio and Weights

Thursday: Yoga Sculpt

Friday: Off

Saturday: Checking out Pure Barre and maybe a spin class

When you workout hard you need to be thinking about pre and post workout nutrition. You want to build all the muscle you can and help your body recover! Most days I am working out in the morning and I don’t eat anything before. That is what works for me, I get very nauseous if I eat before a workout. I do make sure I have water with me and I usually take a pre workout drink. My favorites lately:

Optimum Nutrition Essential Amino Energy

This has amino acids and BCAA’s with a bit of caffeine as well. The grape flavor is my favorite by far!

AdvoCare Spark

My friend Alex sells this and it tastes so good! It has a great blend of vitamins and minerals: B-vitamin complex (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12 and pantothenic acid), taurine, L-tyrosine, choline, caffeine, GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid)

Not everyone is a fan of these but I really like the extra boost pre workout!

And post workout you really need to have protein within 30 minutes of working out to help with muscle building and recovery. So important! My post workout breakfast most days is smoothie and here a few of my favorite options:

d’Vida Smoothies. Delicious. You just throw this in the blender with a bit of water or coconut water and off you go. The vidagreen is seriously delicious! (Thanks to d’Vida for sending me these to try, you can order these on Amazon)

GNC Total Lean

I’ve had three of these flavors already, Mixed Berry, Blueberry and Chocolate and they taste so good. I have a hard time finding one that I can just mix with water and this one is perfect for that. Great flavors, 25 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber. I love these.
