First Look at the New NYX Ultimate Shadow Palettes

Last week, NYX released four new eyeshadow palettes on Ulta's site and they look kind of like the Viseart palettes. Obviously I had to try them out. I got two of the four them: Warm Neutrals and Brights. I have only had them for a day, but I wanted to get swatches and my first impressions up for you.  I am going to start with the Brights palette.
Each palette has 16 shadows that are .02 oz a piece. The brights palette has three pressed pigments.


The Brights palette has a nice range of matte and shimmery shades.  You have just about every bright eyeshadow you could ever need. I haven't worn these yet, but I already have opinions about the formula based on my swatches. They feel pretty smooth, but I would not classify them as buttery and creamy. A lot of the shades have an annoying tendency to flake and fall everywhere, but I am hoping that is not an issue when using a brush. I wouldn't classify most of them as powdery, though. Most of the shades are not chalky, but the last shade (the yellow) is horrible. It is by far the worst in the palette in terms of pigment, chalkiness, and it is even a little bit powdery. The other shades have pretty good pigment that is enhanced with a primer. Most of the shades also swatched a little bit patchy, but did pretty well with a primer. I hope that is also the case when applying them to the eyes. As mentioned above, the brights palette has three pressed pigments. I am unsure which shades they are, but I have an idea. If I had to guess, it would be the first and third shade on the third row, and the second shade of the fourth row.

This shows you how the shadows can peel and that some (not all) can be powdery. 

The first row has a shimmery red, matte fuschia, matte coral (one of my favorites), and a matte orange.

Row three has gorgeous shades of blue that make you want to be at the beach.

The last row has two shades of green and two yellows. The last yellow is the worst shade of the bunch. It is very powdery, chalky, and the pigment is pretty bad.

Now for the warm neutrals palette. I have worn this one for the past three days and I love the way each look as turned out. It didn't seem overly impressive when I first swatched it, but I like the way almost all of the shadows applied. They feel a little more dense than the Brights palette, but they blend well and don't have as much of an issue with peeling and being chalky. Again, using a primer greatly enhances the pigment and how smoothly they apply. I haven't had too much of an issue with creasing or fading. There has been a little of each, but it isn't bad at all.

The first row has your base colors and highlight colors. The second shade is wonderfully intense. The first color makes a nice all over shadow to help set your primer.

Row two has some good transition and crease shades for softer looks, and the third shade looks pretty on the lid for a touch of soft shimmer.

The third row is where you start getting into the really warm shades. There is a shimmery gold, a darker red brown, a peachy copper, and a cranberry brown.



The last row has your darker shades that would be great for a smokier eye, or if your just want a look that is a little more intense.



These palettes are not perfect, but they are better than I expected. I have't used the bright one yet, but I enjoy using the warm neutrals palette. I don't think this a palette you need to rush out and get, and I would definitely get them on sale. Ulta almost always has a $3.50 off of $10 coupon and they put NYX on sale quite often. Plus if you are platinum, they have the 20% off coupon, too. I will keep using them and keep you guys updated.
Each palette is $18. I managed to get both of them for $23 because of the sale and coupons.
