Fall 2012 Nail Polish Favorites - Blues & Greens

As promised, here are my Fall nail polish picks in the blue / green family. I loved dark blue polish so much when I was in high school that it was the only color I wore (it was an old Wet n Wild shade that I wish I could find a dupe for). Lately I've really loved greens and, over the Spring and Summer, I greatly increased my collection of pastel greens. Now that Fall has arrived, they just don't feel quite right so I think it's time to collect more variations on darker and jewel-toned greens! Although that doesn't mean I am locking away the minty goodness until Spring either :)

Getting back on topic, here are some of favorite blues and greens for Fall....

China Glaze Man Hunt - I would call this a dark royal blue polish. It looks lighter in the picture because, try as I might, I just could not make it look accurate. I wish it were more accurate, but it is what it is. I really like this shade - in fact, I had been searching for this shade - because it is not a crazy bright blue, but it is not so dark that it reads almost black. It is a good middle-ground primary blue with a cream finish.

Zoya Song - Described by Zoya as,"bold, vibrant medium primary blue with silver and blue glittery metallic sparkle." Song is kind of the shimmery version of China Glaze's Man Hunt. It is a beautiful deep royal blue that is kind of half way between a shimmer and a metallic. A very pretty color and, like the Man Hunt photo, it is a little bit darker than in the photo. This 2nd picture is pretty true to color, just not quite perfect.

Zoya Breezi - Described by Zoya as "soft, dusty, dirty medium cerulean blue with an opaque cream finish." This is a great jewel-toned deep blue with a hint of green. Unfortunately, the picture makes the color look a bit lighter and more of a bright blue than it is in person. Blues and greens seem to be hard to photograph accurately!

Orly Blue Belle - I actually think of this more as a Winter color because it is kind of an icy, iridescent baby blue, but since Winter is only around the corner, I thought I would include it here anyway. It is a very sheer color that can easily be layered over other polishes to create a unusual almost glowing effect, or can be built up with multiple coats (I used 3 coats) for a more opaque effect. Blue Belle is a sheer, light shimmery baby blue with a subtle blue sparkle that creates an almost iridescent glow with a slight pinkish-purple tint. Whew! That was a mouthful! On a side note, my hand is not huge, it's one of Orly mini-sized bottles.

Zoya FeiFei - Described by Zoya as a, "medium steel blue base with heavy gold, blue and pink iridescent metallic sparkle." This polish truly does sparkle! I'm not sure how Zoya did it, but this has the most unique finish of any polish I have ever seen. It is halfway between a blue and a gray and is just beautifully sophisticated with it's almost glittery, but not quite, sparkling crushed diamond-like finish! Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics (or OCC) Echo - Described by OCC as, "darkest teal-toned blue (opaque, satin)." I love this color. It is such a beautiful teal! Again, not so dark it looks black (are we guessing that bugs me yet?), but deep and rich as all things Fall should be!

Zoya Frida - Described by Zoya as, "a sheer, dark, warm-toned teal blue with a buildable jelly gloss finish." This looks similar to OCC's Echo, as you can see, but, being a jelly polish, Frida is much more sheer allowing you the option of creating a sheer hint of color, or more almost opaque version. You can also get fancy and do jelly sandwiches or color layering with this just like Zoya's Paloma in my berry version of Favorite Fall Polishes. I love this polish enough that it's worth the multiple coats for an opaque look.

Zoya Wednesday - Described by Zoya as a "faded dirt medium turquoise with green undertone and an opaque cream finish." I have many colors similar to this and I think this one has to be my favorite...especially for Autumn. It is muted enough that it doesn't scream spring and is still a beautiful, pretty, feminine shade. In person it is a bit darker, "dustier" and a touch more green than in the photo.

Zoya Gemma - Described by Zoya as, "light muted olive green with an overlay of blue and violet duochrome shimmer." I really, really love the duochrome on this polish! It is such an unusual and unexpected touch. I am not usually a huge fan of olive greens, but this one is just right!

Mineral Fusion Mossy Bank - A beautiful deep hunter green with a soft shimmer. I do not know much about this brand, but saw it one day at Whole Foods and decided to give it a shot! I'm so glad because it is a beautiful dark green and, like China Glaze's Man Hunt, it is not so dark that it looks black. A similar shade to this is Butter London's British Racing Green which is just a tiny bit darker.
