Everyone nowadays has heard of E.l.f and the amazing quality of their products for ridiculously low prices but at the same time, a lot of us have heard on Youtube and Blogs that the products are very hit and miss.
I made my first purchase from elf a few months ago and after a brief chat with ThatBritishBabe I thought It was about the time to review the things that I got.
1 | High Definition Powder - Yellow | £6.00
I feel like the E.l.f stock image really isn’t lying when it shows all of that product coming out when it’s tipped on it’s side!! Hahaha OMG, it’s so messy! Despite that, it’s my favourite purchase because It does what It says on the annoyingly bulky plastic box. It comes with a sifter and a face puff. (Ignore how mucky mine is – Black girl problems, nothing stays white for long) I’ve only kept the puff because it keeps the powder falling out of the sifter! The powder is sooooooo fine and loose. That’s both a positive and a negative though so take it as you will. :)
I use it to set my concealer under my eyes or dust it all the way to my hair line by my ears when I’m going out in the evening for that Kim K look that everyone has been raving about. Unlike the translucent version, I haven’t had any issues with camera flash back or the dreaded coke face so this stuff is a definite WIN for me.
2 | 32 PC Eye-shadow Palette - Brights | £9.00 £5.00
I don’t really know what to say about this palette if I’m honest. I bought the bright version (‘Natural’ & ‘Everyday’ also available) and when it arrived, I was really excited because the colours looked really beautiful and pigmented (always a plus for dark skinned girls like me). I did my everyday make-up and with ten minutes to do my eyes before I had to be out of the door I (gently) dived straight in to one of the shimmery brown/golds. It went everywhere. It literally came out of the pan like dust. I tried to apply it to the lid and it ended up down my cheek. – That wasn’t fun considering I was in a big rush and I still didn’t have any eyeliner on!! Gahh!
I have tried these shadows again since and find that spraying my brush with MAC Fix+ or just getting it damp with water helps a lot and the colours look lovely. It is a bit of an arse though.
3 | Elf Complete Coverage Concealer | £3.75
Uh, the concealer in this quad is okay quality for the price and for someone a teeny bit darker than me, this would probably be great. But really I only got use from two of the lighter shades. The coverage is kind of streaky and it definitely isn’t ‘complete coverage’ but It does work fairly well for what it is. If I do decide to try this again I’ll go for the ‘medium’ set instead of ‘dark’.
4 | Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 - Toffee | £1.50
This looks lovely and chocolatey in the photo but it Isn’t! IT LIES! Unless you enjoy being ‘tinted’ in murky Thames water then this stuff just looks nasty. I really don’t think it would match anyone. AND it smells like liquorice. I really, REALLY dislike liquorice. Even though it only cost £1.50, I’m still really pissed about it. – It doesn’t moisturise either. I mean, I do have dry skin and a history of severe eczema but still. My skin just felt like chalk afterwards and you could see grey smears here, there and everywhere. Needless to say, I wasn’t happy and I only used it the once.
Having said all of that, I will probably be trying other stuff out from E.l.f.. For the price, I think It’s good enough for me to experiment with and see what I like. Check back on my page for an E.l.f wish list that’ll be appearing soon-ish.
Thank’s for reading. :)
