Dorothy Pegs Oz as New Good Housekeeping Seal
Posted on the 18 February 2013 by Fadi Bejjani @DrFadiBejjaniDr. Oz first appeared on the The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2004, and later on Larry King Live and other TV programs. For a famed cardiovascular surgeon at Columbia, he emphasized prevention and uniquely combined Eastern and Western approaches. In 2009, Dorothy Winfrey's Harpo Productions and Sony Pictures launched The Dr. Oz Show, a daily television program focusing on medical issues and personal health. A year or so before, she had done the same to Barack Hussein Obama (another wizardI guess).By and large through his immensely popular TV show, Dr. Mehmet Oz wields significant influence over his millions of docile and loyal viewers, otherwise known as Hoi polloi in old Greek. Products or active ingredients that have been featured on his show have gone on to be overnight sensations. Some, like Argireline, the peptide that he called a "Botox alternative," have generated sustained high sales over extended periods of time, even leading to a sale of the parent company to Warren Buffet's Lubrizol. Three recent supplements that have also generated a lot of hype are the weight reduction wonder drugs in the form of raspberry ketones, the green coffee bean extracts and most recently what he dubs The "Holy Grail of Weight Loss" Pure Garcinia Cambogia. These products are facing acute shortage on the market because of unprecedented demand. It has also triggered a mushrooming effect, with many brands (some shadier than others) popping up overnight to cash in on the demand. Having a product promoted by Dr. Oz is not only an extremely expensive proposition, but the Nec Plus Ultra of any savvy marketing department. When America’s Doctor talks, America listens (he is one of the few doctors that America still respects these days). If you do not sprinkle a bit of OZ Dust on your product, it will most certainly flop! When you have the OZ Seal who needs the FDA?
We should remember that even before the launching of Dr. Oz by Oprah, his name was on the bottom of EVERY can and bottle ever produced: OZ(as in ounces)! He was most certainly predestined to become the Good Housekeeping Seal he has become.
During a recent episode ofhis show, Dr. Oz had a special segment devoted to the field of stem cells, with Oprah Winfrey and Michael J. Fox.as guests. Dr. Oz has always had a lot of faith in stem cell research. He first created waves on TV while appearing as a guest on Oprah in 2009. On that episode, he stated that in his opinion, the stem cell debate is dead and buried because of the latest and exciting research breakthrough in the field of induced pluripotent stem cells, which are basically adult tissue-based stem cells that have been programmed by scientists to differentiate like the embryonic stem cells. Most recently in a special episode devoted to breast cancer, Dr. Oz was talking about the benefits of stem cell therapy for breast reconstruction, i.e. fat transfer with stem cells. His endorsement of the field of stem cell research has had a great impact on public consciousness. To prove this point, Advanced Cell Technology Inc. picks up speed on PR messages featuring health guru Doctor Oz. The stock added nearly 4% on January 2. 2012.
Oz has found criticism in the past, due to his tendency to feature pseudoscience and other controversial subjects. That is maybe jealousy-driven. Some may get confused when a new diet product is taunted as the best ever every week. My beef if any is the onslaught of spam messages I get (several times the same one per day) with his name on top. Some examples:

The danger here, just like for the other Oprah protégé, is overexposure that ends up diluting the message and losing the audience. A wise man once said: “If Speech is silver, silence is golden”. Another famous genius said: “Nothing strengthens authority so much as silence.” Leonardo da Vinci.
