Good news for ambitious women in the military. Combat roles are now open for all women starting January 2016. Women can now drive tanks, fire mortars and lead infantry soldiers into combat announced Defense Secretary Ash Carter on December 3rd, 2015.
"This means that as long as they qualify and meet the standards, women will be able to contribute to our mission in ways they could not before," Carter said at the Pentagon's press briefing. "There will be no exceptions."
"Our force of the future must continue to benefit from the best people America has to offer. In the 21st century, that requires drawing strength from the broadest possible pool of talent," Carter said. "This includes women because they make up over 50 percent of the American population."
This decision opens 220,000 jobs to women. We at CCG are proud of our readers who are women in the military and want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU.
Today we send tribute to the working women thousands of miles away from home, living in barracks in the desert and fighting terrorists to safeguard our country's independence. We can't begin to imagine what the demands of this profession is like, but we greatly admire the women rising the ranks in a male-dominated profession.
