Do You Know Your Strengths?

By Mackenzie Sheahan @kenziesheahan

Over the summer I have really been taking the time to get to know myself.  Don’t get me wrong, I have always had a great sense of what I stand for and who I have been made to be.  Though I have felt discontent for a long time…discontent with the everyday routine or people being frustrated with all of the new crazy ideas I want to try.  I have had individuals, very lovingly, tell me that I am involved in too much or have just taken on too much.

So I questioned myself…was I doing something wrong or should I be going a different way?  In trying to be respectful of those amazing people who told me I needed to change my life style, I found myself bored, unmotivated, and discontent.  All of a sudden life was hues of gray instead my typical vibrant world.   What was wrong with me?

As my husband, Mitch, and I started digging deeper into leadership theories and principles we started exploring our strengths as leaders.  Little did I know that what I was trying to conform inside of me was the very essence of who I was…

What did I find out?

According to the Meyer/Briggs Personality Test (that you can take for free) I am…

Then taking it a step further we were recommended the book Strength Finders 2.0.  (For around $15)  Inside you will find a code to an online test.  After taking it I was told that my strengths were…

Adaptability, Communication, Positivity, Activator, and Woo  (You can read more about those at the bottom of the post, if interested.)

These strengths confirmed everything that I have ever felt about my habits or self in general.  I just never knew that they were strengths to be built upon.  These results were not only affirming to me looking at myself as an individual but now I knew my strengths when functioning on a team!  It has really has changed the way I think about myself and others.

My challenge to you…

Take the tests, be honest and go with your gut.  Consider the results and see where you can apply your new thinking in your day to day life.  You will benefit from doing this…even if you already think you know what your strengths are.  When has more knowledge hurt anyone!   Share below what you found and how it has impacted you!
