DIY Lace Sneakers

By Cinnamonspring @CinnaSpring

Where I work right now, I get to wear sneakers. My dresscode is a vast difference than when I was in private legal practice. Yes, I left private legal practice 3 months ago! A lot has happened in 2014 but 'CHANGE' is definitely the most defining word for it. I am just thankful to God for everything.

Alright, I digress. Sneakers. The last time I wore sneakers was when I was studying in the UK during times when I didn't want to wear flats or heels in the freezing cold! I wanted to start wearing sneakers to work, to give some variety to my work wardrobe so I took some inspiration from these lace sneakers (p.s: hover your mouse over each shoe to know more details):

Then of course, I decided to DIY my own! Read the easy DIY tutorial below:

What you need:

  • A pair of sneakers (I got mine from H&M)
  • Lace
  • Mod Podge (I got mine from Spotlight)
  • Sponge applicator
  • A sheet of soft plastic

To avoid the insides getting wet when you apply the Mod Podge, slip in a sheet of plastic (I used a plastic bag) under.

Place the lace over the front of the sneakers and cut an approximate shape that you want.

Dip the sponge (I used a new kitchen sponge!) or sponge applicator into the Mod Podge and slowly spread it across the front of the sneaker.

Then slowly cover the Mod Podged area with lace. This will take a few minutes to dry. Once dry, trim the stray edges.

Then, it's important to seal the lace onto the sneaker. So here, I applied another layer of Mod Podge on top of the lace. Let it dry for a day or two. Don't worry about staining because the Mod Podge dries clearly! Observe:

Voila! My cool lace sneakers has garnered quite a number of compliments.
