There has been a lack of updates here, mainly because I have been busy with the setting up of DIYKL, a DIY collective in Malaysia that aims to bring and expand the DIY culture on Malaysian shores. Growing up my mother used to pass down her many trinkets for me to play with. From there, I would take pieces apart, redesign it, and then re-piece it in a style that I really loved and would wear. This stayed with me until the present day where DIY fashion has become such an integral part of me that led to the birth of this DIY website (Cinnamon Spring), and of DIYKL.
Co-founded with another partner, DIYKL is a one-stop online store for DIY supplies, tools and fashion forward DIY kits. In DIYKL I also design a range of DIY jewellery kits such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings and headbands. All DIYKL tutorials are on the online store as well. As the both of us have our own day jobs which are important to us, we started DIYKL slow and small and are so thankful for the support shown to us thus far. When we first popped up at local bazaars in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia we needed a logo that would help identify our booths. Do read on below where I will show you how to make DIY Glitter Logo Letters which you can easily do using other materials other than glitter.
Let's start!
What you need:
- Wooden letters (I purchased mine from Spotlight)
- Mod Podge in Matte
- Sponge or sponge applicator
- Skewer stick
- Small plastic container
- Newspaper (in case things get messy!)
Pour some mod podge into a plastic container. Don't pour out too much yet, as it should be the same amount as glitter you put in.
Now add the glitter. As mentioned earlier, you want the amount of glitter to be the same as the mod podge.
Stir the glitter into the mod podge!
From the stirring, you should be able to tell if there isn't enough glitter in there (i.e. if the sight of mod podge is more).
Using a sponge or sponge applicator, dip it into the glitter mod podge and slowly starting from the top of the letter, swipe the glitter mod podge in a downwards motion.
Do this for all the remaining letters! You won't need to fully wait for the first coat to dry yet, and proceed swipe a few more coats of glitter so that the surface is filled with glitter! Fill in the empty gaps with glitter. Now let it dry for a few good hours.
After the mod podge has dried, you will notice that it has dried clear like in the picture above. To seal the glitter in extra, you can add another coat of pure mod podge (i.e. without glitter in it). However you can omit this step out, as the glitter is already quite sealed once dried.
Voila! Prepping a glitter logo for DIYKL was so simple and easy! You can try the same with other mediums beside glitter, and is the easiest way to update your logos. Have fun!
