It's Valentine's Day today so I've decided to make a special treat! Well I've actually been wanting to do this recipe for many years now but have always been putting it off. Ever heard of Rice Krispies squares? Rice krispies cereal held together with sweet melted marshmallows. Growing up, I used to be quite addicted to these and would literally walk to the grocery shop near my home in Sarawak just to get a bunch of these and gobble them down. Each time, without fail, I would get extremely guilty for being such a glutton! Haha! However, I stopped buying the Rice Krispies squares after they became too expensive, but would find it a treat whenever I did eat them.
There are loads of Rice Krispies recipes out there, but here's an easy one without using marshmallows! Make your own Rice Krispies treats with only THREE ingredients by reading more below:
What you need (makes 30):
- Rice Krispies cereal (I used 65g out of the 130g)
- MARS chocolate bars (I used 3 MARS bars for 65g rice krispies)
- 2-3 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- Small cupcake paper cups
- Microwave
- Knife
- Chopping board
- Microwave-safe bowl
Step #1: Cut the MARS bars into small pieces - this helps it melt faster!
Step #2: I placed the chopped MARS bars and butter into a microwave-safe bowl. Depending on your microwave and heat, you should take caution when you begin to melt your ingredients. I microwaved the ingredients for 40 seconds on High. Use a spoon to stir the contents like in the picture.
Step #3: Add in the Rice Krispies cereal puffs and start mixing the contents! You want an even distribution between the chocolate and rice krispies.
Step #4: Roll the rice krispies into balls and place each one into the cupcake holders. Let it chill in the fridge for at least 15 minutes before serving. If it stays out of the cold for too long, the chocolate will begin to melt and nobody likes that!
Take a bite...mmm
How simple and easy was that?
Serve these at your next tea party, or give as treats to a loved one! Yummy.
