Director Named for Mortal Instruments Film

If the Mortal Instruments films ever makes it to Cinemas across the world, I may actually die of shock. It seems that information comes in dribs and drabs at several month intervals, and then it goes completely silent again. Back in December 2010, it was dripped that Lily Collins would take the lead role of Clary Fray (an interesting casting, which I'm intrigued about), however, it wasn't until May 2011 that Jamie Campbell Bower was announced to play Jace Wayland.
Ten months later, and a Director has finally become attached to the film. That Director is Harald Zwart who is perhaps best known for making the most recent Karate Kid film (is that really something to brag about...?). Interestingly, this news comes with the further confirmation that Lily Collins is indeed still attached to the film, however, it did not go unmissed that there was absolutely no mention of Jamie Campbell Bower. Is this due to him being an unpopular choice amongst fans? Well, to be fair, when does Hollywood ever bow down to the fans?
Apparently, work is touted to begin on this film in August 2012, so fingers crossed that it will actually go ahead, because the books are certainly a great read. And with this current trend of turning teenage fantasy fiction into blockbuster films, you just know that it will be very well received in the obvious circles. Whether it'll be with or without Jamie Campbell Bower is currently anyone's guess, but personally, I'd prefer it to be without.
