Is depression in women different from general mood swings and sadness? Women are biologically designed to experience more emotions than men. Sometimes they become “too much” to handle.

Experiencing sadness for a long period of time can lead to Depression.
However, depression is not just sadness. It is much beyond that.

Famously, Winston Churchill referred to his depression as“the black dog.” Depression is a common illness characterized by persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities that one normally enjoys, accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities, for at least two weeks.

Signs of Depression:

   Women either tend to become more silent or show excessive anger

   They start to ignore people in your family and friends

   They are lost in their world, unaware of their surroundings (zoning out)

   Excessive or no sleep

   Mood swings


Additional Causes of Depression in women:

  1. Abusing or Beatings from partner
  2. Post-partum depression
  3. Breakups
  4. Disputes in the family or at the workplace
  5. Unreasonable demands or pressure from in-laws
  6. Harassment
  7. Work-life Balance
  8. Events during Pregnancy
  9. Abnormal Menstruation cycle
  10. Body shaming, Not being comfortable with their bodies
  11. Childhood Trauma
  12. Unrealistic Expectations set by self or family



How to Battle Depression
We’ve all faced a time when it was absolutely difficult to get out of bed. Meeting people was exhausting and you’d just want to be left alone. You are not alone in this fight.


Never feel alone in your struggles with depression:

Ways to treat depression may not always be medical. We might have a perception that depression can’t be cured without clinical help but that is not true in all cases. We have suggested the following ways which can help you to some extent.

Talk to your Family or Friends

Your family and friends are the closest relations, there is a high possibility that they will understand you and help you.

Try talking to them, opening up to a confidant will help in taking the first step towards improving your mental health.

Did you know, According to 2017 statistics, 1 in seven people suffers from one or other mental health issues? There is a high chance that someone you know is going through a similar struggle and waiting for you to initiate the conversation.

Try to find a hobby

Try to spend time in a productive way and finding a hobby to spend your time on is the best option. This not only keeps you distracted but also makes your time productive.

Meditation

Meditation helps you to release your stress and calm you down. Simply concentrating on your breathing for a few minutes can do wonders for your health. Try to find a suitable place for meditation and include this in your routine to see the magic.

Seek Help

There is nothing wrong in talking to a therapist about how you feel. Even though there is stigma around mental health, it is important to vent out every once in a while. Find safe space to talk to the right therapist

Social media detox

Today we all are busy with our social media handles. We post our whole day on our social media but sadly we forget to take out time for ourselves.

To help you spend more time with yourself and your loved ones it's really important to detox social media in a positive way.

Gym or Fitness exercises

Performing fitness exercises and daily workouts help us to keep both our mental and physical health healthy. To achieve this fitness goal either you can join the gym or do home workouts, whatever suits you.


Getting away from Family

Family is our strength but sometimes they become overwhelming and one should not feel guilty about taking your time out away from the family to recharge.
Taking a vacation might help you change your mood & you’ll get a chance to connect with your inner self.
