I don't usually share much personal information, but I was inclined to share this with you because I want to become more transparent with you as my readers, and reach out to you with issues far more substantial than just hair talk...
I first discovered Mrs. Jennifer Lucy Tyler on Instagram through another young lady's page. I was immediately drawn to her radiant spirit and her testimony. I also realized that I grew up in the same church as her husband, who was always very serious about the Word and pleasing God. I knew Jennifer had to be a strong, diligent woman for the Lord, and together with her husband they have formed a powerful ministry to "empower and encourage others by providing them the tools they need to discover their purpose in Christ and be whole."
This year, I've decided to join in on Jennifer's mission, 'The Favor Project' which is a project that addresses how negative thinking can outweigh the positive blessings in our lives, and even shape our lives. With so many negative things happening in our lives and in the world around us, it's easy to get caught up in the trials of life instead of holding on to the beauty in our lives.
Two months ago, I was faced with the passing of my grandmother, which was the most devastating thing I've had to deal with in a long time. I found myself sulking and blaming myself for what I could have, or should have done as opposed to the things that I had and did do, and the overall beauty of our relationship.
I found myself in an unhealthy state both spiritually and physically, and I was beating myself up as if I could have stopped what God had ordained. In addition to my loss, there were other pitfalls as well. The past year has been a pretty tough year for me, but I'm expecting great things for 2014 and I'm claiming a breakthrough. I thought The Favor Project was the perfect idea for focusing on the more wonderful things in life, no matter how big or small.
The goals of "The Favor Project":
- To remind ourselves, and others of what’s really important; and that is glorifying God in all that we do while pointing the world to Him.
- To encourage people to remain thankful and focus on God’s grace in the midst of the tests, trials and tribulation we all face.
- To inspire a wave of gratitude across the world and a wave of giving that will be infectious in this generation.
I'm going to try and commit to journaling at least 3-4 times a week. The goal is to be able to look back at the end of the year to see God's grace, favor and kindness on your life. Even the smallest blessings count for something. If you want to join me, you can start your own online journal and share your experiences via social media using hashtag #TheFavorProject on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. You can also follow my online journal here. If you choose not to share online, you could also keep a journal at home and write down your personal thoughts. Remember, this project is a journey for you, to help you learn to be grateful for the little things in life and not sweat the things that you cannot change.
