December 2012 BirchBox Unwrapped - Better Late Than Never!

By Makeupguineapig @MakeUpGuineaPig
I'm sorry this is so late. I wrote it as soon as the box arrived (which was maybe around the 17th btw). Somehow I just never got photos taken and what fun is an unwrapping without photos? :) Better late than never!
I suppose it’s pretty clear that I haven’t been thrilled with my BirchBoxes lately, so I was particularly curious what his month had in store. It’s so-called theme of the month was “All Wrapped Up”. My first thought after opening the box was that the box itself is really beautiful! I think they should keep this design year round! J Since that made me smile, I give BirchBox some extra brownie points this month. So what was inside? Keep reading to find out….

First is a Pomegranate & Fig Lip Butter from Mox Botanicals. I am happy to get this sample because I remember seeing it in a few other boxes a month or two ago and wished I could have tried it too. Now I can! It’s a pretty small pot, but it’s enough to test.

From Number 4, there is a Clarifying Shampoo. I have always heard that color treated hair should steer clear of clarifying shampoos so I’m a little puzzled about this one. It’s a nice size sample at 1.75oz and it smells ok. Nothing special and I wouldn’t have the faintest idea of how I would describe the scent. The little BirchBox card says, “Gentle enough for everyday use, this unique cleanser has a low-suds formula that removes build-up without stripping hair of essential oils.” Maybe it’s safe for color-treated hair, but I’m a little wary. At least it’s in a bottle and not a foil packet, so well done on that score! J
Inside the little tissue wrapped portion is a tiny little “Hot Mama” blush from the Balm. The color is really pretty and I’ve heard nothing but great things about the Balm’s blushes so I’m happy with this too. It says, “How cute is this peachy blush? The universally flattering pigment is laced with faint golden shimmer to add warmth to your complexion.” Very pretty and I’m looking forward to trying it out. Finally in the non-extra category, there is a Cartier Baiser Volé Eau de Parfum sample. It is apparently “a single-note composition of pure lily.” I’m never a huge fan of perfumes, so I always kind of look at the perfume samples as an extra. I’m also not a fan of floral scents, but this one is ok. It’s fairly light, but definitely still has a floral scent. I doubt I would ever wear it, but it’s not at all bad either.

Now for the first extra. It’s a foil packet and we all know how I love foil packets! J Since it is considered an extra, I do not consider that to be a huge disappointment. This one is something I could definitely use though, so a larger size might have been nice! It is Dermud Enriched Intensive Foot Cream from Ahava. My feet definitely need some intensive nourishing so this is perfect! I’m looking forward to trying this, but I know it’s going to irritate me trying to get it out of the foil packet! But again, with the extras, I don’t expect anything too fancy. The packets are just so inconvenient! J

Finally, in the extra department, is a men’s fragrance (stop sending me samples to entice me into your men’s subscription darnit!). It is Déclaration d’un Soir from Cartier. It is described as a blend of pepper and sandalwood. It smells nice I suppose. I’m not a huge cologne fan either, but I wouldn’t object to this one. Actually, I probably like this better than the women’s fragrance, though I’m not sure I would actually wear it! J

And that’s my December BirchBox. Not bad. No complaints this month! And I will say that the special box design is beautiful, plus it made me smile. J If you are interested in subscribing to BirchBox, you can find more information here.
