Curls for a Cause: You CAN Donate Natural Hair in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

By Rockitnapptural @Rockitnapptural
As women, it's nothing to us to make sure our hair is flawless before heading out the house. We usually don't think twice about what a blessing it is to have a head full of hair, as there are many women who have been forced to shave all of their hair off, or endure losing it as a result of battling with breast cancer.

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Nearly half of those women will lose all of their hair. Donating your hair to an organization that gives back by creating wigs and hair pieces for fighters and survivors of breast cancer would be a beautiful way to give another woman a glimmer of hope into the future.
For those women especially who chose to transition to natural hair by big chopping, we know there are days where you may not feel as pretty, feminine or yourself. We can overcompensate by adding hair pieces, earrings and etc but when you're battling for your life, those things just don't seem that important.
Not every woman losing her hair is sporting a long, straight mane. Breast cancer shows no prejudice and affects every single race on the planet, including women with straight hair, kinky hair, waxy hair, thick hair and tightly-coiled hair.
For most charities, the donation requirement is usually 8-10 inches of hair but it all depends on the organization. Here are a few organizations where hair can be donate to help women who have lost their hair to breast cancer treatments:

Locs of Love
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Wigs for Kids

When Children lose their hair, they don't just suffer physically. The change in their appearance can drastically undermine their self-image and sabotage their self-esteem. To help heal the pain of these struggles, Certified Cosmetic Therapist Jeffrey Paul founded Wigs for Kids, a nonprofit organization that has been serving children suffering from hair loss since 1981.

Children with Hair Loss

Children With Hair Loss was created as a resource for all children who have medically-related hair loss. It is our mission to empower these children to become whole again by making hair replacement available to those who may be financially challenged and might otherwise not have a means of obtaining the hair they want and need.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths Campaign

Beautiful Lengths is a partnership between Pantene and the American Cancer Society, the largest non-profit health organization committed to saving lives from every cancer and improving the quality of life for people facing the disease.
