This sweet little painting is called “Gingerich Farm.” It was a commissioned piece.
My client had taken this amazing drone footage of his friends’ rural farm property in Kentucky, and asked me if I could create a painting of his friends’ property using this aerial video of the property as a reference. So, I took a few still frames from his footage to work from.
In the video footage, I loved how flocks of birds were swooping through the sky. So I made sure to include some birds in the sky to give the same soaring feeling from the video.
I also slightly exaggerated the curve of the horizon line from left to right. This curve is visually pleasing, and it allowed me to include just a little more sky in the image, even though it is an aerial view.
Because this aerial landscape is so lush and green, I started the painting with a completely green base layer, and allowed much of that color to show through in the final painting.
This is one of those paintings full of tiny details painted with a tiny brush!
