Classy Career Girl Featured Commenter: April 2012

Congratulations to our April featured commenter Kim who writes about living and doing things in Arkansas on her blog,  The Made Thing. If you want to get an idea about living in Arkansas, visit her blog!

Kim just celebrated 2 years of blogging. She admits that she did not even know where Arkansas was until she flew over the Mississippi on her way there. On her blog, she wrote the journey of this damn yankee in Arkansas.  Kim has also taken the 4X4 networking challenge and you can read about her experiences networking here.

Why is this damn yankee in Arkansas anyway?

After being rejected by the only college she applied to (whoops!), Kim received a single page application to a small liberal arts college in Arkansas in the last few months of high school. Kim admits that she didn’t even know where Arkansas was until she flew over the Mississippi on her way there. Kim wasn’t happy with having to go to this particular college in a Southern state and escaped for a year abroad in Montpellier, France. She was really annoyingly Northern when she got to Arkansas, bless her heart.

So why did she stay if she hated it so much?

Well, there’s this boy…

There’s always a boy, isn’t there?

Yeah. But he’s a special one. He convinced her that Arkansas was a wonderful place to live. It wasn’t easy to convince her but now she’s here to stay. We’re still trying to break her yankee ways, one sweet tea at a time.

What is The Made Thing?

Whether from the land or from the mind, the South is a society based on what we can do, as both individuals and communities, with our skills. It’s about doing. Kim writes on her blog about living and doing things in Arkansas and being a damn yankee in the South.

Congrats to Kim who wins a copy of the book Is This Seat Taken? Random Encounters That Change Your Life by Kristin S.
