Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation comes in a beautiful glass bottle with pale gold cap. I am absolutely in love with the packaging, very sturdy and feels luxurious and expensive.
It is a light to medium coverage foundation that is buildable without cakiness. It applies like a dream. I use my fingers and it goes on smoothly, masking imperfections and redness. The only concealing required after this is under the eyes and a few spots here and there. It is in the category of those "skin-like" foundations which are lightweight, luminous with great texture, buildable coverage without being cakey, in the same style as Lingerie de Peau by Guerlain or Dior's DiorskinNude.
It supposedly has light reflecting particles in it, although i can barely detect them. Although, the finish is almost pearlescent.
The only downside of this foundation (if I ignore the price for the moment) is fragrance. I do not understand why Clarins puts this same smell in most of its perfumes. It is not required...I don't want my face to "smell" like roses or whatever it is. Also, it franky has quite an amount of alcohol in it as well.
Also, the foundation shades are as if they are suited for the pale complexioned. I got it online for Nordstrom.com and even the shade 6-8 on their list is too pale. I have it in Shade Sand and it is tad too light for my skin. I think Honey would have been a better choice.
The Good
- light to medium coverage which is buildable
- great texture
- feels light on skin
- no parabens or mineral oil
- great packaging
- lasts upto 6hrs without primer/setting spray
- give a nice glow to skin
- all skin types
The Bad
- alcohol level (5th on ingredient list)
- fragranced
I have really been loving this foundation, as fragrance really doesn't irritate my skin or my nose ;). It is a beautiful foundation, a must try.
