Summary:
I was actually very pleased with the variety of colours available in the Ever Matte range and I quickly found a foundation which matched quite well. It was slightly darker than my skin tone so it gave me a bit of extra colour, but I don’t mind that. The texture was also very smooth and not as runny as some other foundations I’ve tried. It did spread well but you do actually need quite a lot of the foundation to completely cover your face, but it does blend well and smooths evenly. It also is lightly perfumed which smells fresh and quite ‘posh’.
I was actually quite impressed with the results, my skin looked completely matte and flawless. For about an hour or so anyway. After that I could visibly see my nose and T-zone zone becoming extremely oily; far more so than how it would be without any foundation on at all. The remainder of my face still looked flawless for about 4-5 hours but the foundation had completely come off my T-zone, and even after several hours I could see the foundation still coming off on my tissues when I blew my nose. As you can imagine I was very disappointed with this. I did like the results of this foundation when I first put it on, and I liked that it wasn’t incredibly thick but still covered all my marks and imperfections. I also liked that I wasn’t left with a powdery and unnatural finish. I just expected the foundation to stay put for at least 4 times longer than this one did. I would have thought that those with oily skin would have be drawn to a matte foundation and I’m surprised that Clarins hadn’t anticipated that. Even primers don’t help much with this foundation because this foundation causes my skin to become so horribly oily.
Naturally I’m still extremely sceptical about Clarins foundations and I’ve no idea how they can justify a £24.00 price tag seeing as it doesn’t actually do what it promises. Avoid if you too have oily skin! Possibly best for those with dry skin, but I wouldn’t want to suggest this as I can’t back up my claim.
