Churn Milk Joan: The Kitchen Is Full Of Marimbas

American Richard Knutson (Plum Flower Embroidery. Neutral Sons, The Chacers) and Englishman Colin Robinson (Big Block 454, Jumble Hole Clough) have found the time to record another Churn Milk Joan album. As per usual The Kitchen Is Full Of Marimbas is all over the place, but there is a method in their avant-garde post-rcok funk ambient madness. Be prepared for sexual innuendo (he's a Rude Mermaid), a percussive Eric Burdon & War meets Captain Beefheart lullaby (Fuzzy Baby), and aloof Psychoactive Twins mixing Pulp with the Velvets for an expected North African dance routine.

Knutson and Robinson can use the sound of anything, banging on a wide range of unsuspecting objects besides the usual marimba, guitar, bass, keyboard, soprano sax, and saxonet. It's perfectly plausible to think they didn't just settle for Looking At My Dusty Tagine, but also found a way to incorporate a noise created by said kitchen utensil as well. The wobbly time signature of X-Mas Song won't make the charts during the holiday season, but fans of Primus and The Residents will love it. The Kitchen Is Full Of Marimbas itself is short and quirky ditty that will put a smile on the faces of toddlers, who are not aware of musical do's and don'ts just yet, and avant-garde loving adults who worked very hard to reach that level again.

The Kitchen Is Full Of Marimbas is a self-released album. Buy it (pay-what-you-want) from their website.
