I have a street style girl crush and her name is Miroslava Duma! Every now and then I like to scour the internet for some street style inspiration, mainly to help me reinvent my own clothes and she is consistently a source of incredible inspiration. Obviously she is always decked out in big ticket designer labels, but that doesn’t mean I can “get the look” with a few good finds and a few bargain discounts.
This is the latest outfit that was inspired by Ms. Duma, for a Sunday stroll and ice cream in Modena’s Centre.
Here is the original street style photograph I came across on Pinterest and pinned it to my SS 2014 (Spring Summer 2014) board. Then I searched for elements that I already own and recreated the look (as best I could!). I wouldn’t say I was quite as polished and put together as Ms. Duma, she wore heels, I wore leopard print espadrilles sandals, but I like what I came up with and it didn’t cost me a penny in new purchases.

What I Wore
I’ve written before about this 7 euro Zara skirt. I found it on sale online last year. It isn’t real leather, but it has been a staple in my wardrobe in the fall and winter. I actually thought I couldn’t wear it in the summer, because it was such a winter colour and fabric, but Ms. Duma showed me the light!
If you want to see the way I’ve styled this skirt before, here I wore it to a wedding and paired it with Cavalli booties, a big python belt and a grey, knit v-neck. And here I’ve paired it with black high heeled boots, a black knit top and a big grey scarf.
Notice that I’m standing beside a closed store for this series of photos…that’s just to replicate as much as possible Ms. Duma’s street style shot. Just kidding, it was totally accidental and I just noticed it now, but isn’t that pretty cool!?
My shoes were bought from Asos for under 20 euro way back in JANUARY. Am I kidding? No. I buy my winter clothes in the summer and my summer clothes in the winter. Why? You ask. Because you can find them discounted even more. But I’ll get to that later…..
So let’s go through the list:
- Skin-toned t-shirt – bought in the 90s – let say for 7 euro ($9 bucks)
- Sunglasses – Vintage, bought at the Antiques Market in Modena (read about them here and about vintage market shopping in Italy here) for around 15 euro ($20 bucks)
- Burgundy (or Ox-Blood…if you are a hard-core fashionista) pleather pleated midi skirt – Zara for 7 Euro ($9)
- Asos leopard espadrilles sandals – 20 euro ($27)
- Vintage LV bag – bought at yet another Antiques Market for 35 Euro ($47) a few years back. Do I know if it is real? No. Do I care? Not really!
- Real python cuff – made by my man so I got it for free, most likely as a birthday or Christmas gift. I know, you can hate me….some women are married to dentists and get free cleanings, some women are married to leather artisans and get free python cuffs. Now, if only I could pay my dentist in python cuffs (#wishfulthinking)
My WHOLE look cost me 84 euro, or $112 US dollars, or $122 Canadian dollars or 64£ British Pounds…..I would say that’s not bad at all.
The Reason I Dressed
As I mentioned, this was a Sunday stroll, so many of the places in Modena’s city centre were closed. I’ve written before about the Importance of Saturday and why everything closes on Sunday in Italy.
The three of us just hung out in one of the small piazza’s, had lunch somewhere, went for ice cream and mainly chased pigeons.
24 hours
First of all I want to apologize that I have no time. If I had a few more hours free to myself everyday I would write about so many fall trends and SS 2015 trends that you can easily BUY NOW, by shopping the sales racks. So I won’t make any promises for tomorrow, BUT IF I decide not to sleep tonight I may pull together a post, since I have SO MUCH I want to share.
In the meantime, if you’ve copied a celebrity look with your own clothes please SEND ME A PICTURE I’d love to see the look and feature you!!
Ugh. I also have SO MANY real moms to feature on the blog and ideas….but alas there are only 24 hours in the day, which are surprisingly few (especially when you have a toddler that is awake until 10:30 / 11 pm HELP ME!!!).
PLUS, MY PARENTS ARE HERE! Yay!!! We are actually having a great time, hanging out, going to the park, eating, chatting, arguing (but just a little), sight seeing and reminiscing. Yesterday was my 34th birthday and I made us all a big fish dinner and a gluten free birthday cake.
As hard as it is to find time to blog, I do eventually respond to all comments and they really do mean a lot to me so thank you for taking the time and have a GREAT WEDNESDAY
