The idea of a capsule wardrobe is becoming more and more appealing as I reflect on my 2014 purchases. My year in fashion (more like lack) was dominated by black trousers and gray t-shirts, the occasional pleated midi skirt and my worn to death Karen Walker tweed coat. I had a go at the 5 Pieces thing (in short: Buy 5 items per season / basics don't count) but wouldn't call it a roaring success. There was a constant lack in basics and always new shoes to layby. This meant I had more display only / collectible / I'll wear them one day shoes than I did soft v-neck t-shirts. I knew it was time for some sort of 'refresh' when I noticed my favorite J.Crew breton top slightly discoloured...
I made this draft Capsule Wardrobe that takes into account some of my personal preferences: separates are best and casual being acceptable for work. There's also a bunch of dresses because it would be nice to wear more dresses in 2015. With the exception of the chambray shirt in the first row (that's The Clean Shirt by AYR by the way), you can hover over the black squares for product info and click through to take you straight to the product page.
Do you have any tips for starting a capsule wardrobe from scratch? What are your sources for capsule wardrobe inspiration?
