The latest news on the Superhero film front relates to the much anticipated Superman reboot. Casting has been confirmed for the character of Superman himself and I am pleased with the choice of actor for two reasons; I like the fact that he's an unknown (expectations can be low for an unknown so if they're good then you'll be all the more impressed) and, he's British which is an interesting factor. Christopher Reeve was a relative unknown when the original Superman film was released and he turned out to be pretty darn good. The actor in question is Henry Cavill who I have never heard of. But does that matter? Not to me and I'm sure that many Superman fans will feel the same way. After the severe let down that was Superman Returns we are in need of something fresh and original.
When a Brit actor makes it big in Hollywood we seem to get excited because we feel that they will bring a sense of quality to a film (Alec Guinness for instance). There is every chance that Cahill will suck as Superman, but because the Nolan brothers are involved I expect good things from the Superman reboot. If you agree or disagree with anything in this blog we'd love to hear your views on the Superman casting.
