The background
Liverpool Football Club have been without a manager since they parted ways with Anfield playing legend Kenny Dalglish at the end of the season. Plenty of names have been linked with the job including ex-Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez and Wigan’s highly-rated young gaffer Roberto Martinez. But Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers has landed the coveted job. Rodgers, who cut his teeth under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, steered Swansea to the Premier League from the Championship in his first season in charge and then delivered an impressive first season showing in the Premiership. Despite not spending big, Rodgers’ swans finished comfortably mid-table and played a slick brand of passing football. He signed a three-year contract with Liverpool this afternoon.

Liverpool sack Dalglish for Brendan Rogers. Is this is really progress? Still waiting to convinced that FSG have a serious plan for success

Not sure two good years at Swansea, however many times you get compared to Barcelona, is enough preparation for a job of this magnitude.

Of course no guarantees, but if #LFC are prepared to give Rodgers time, patience and resources, he’s got qualities to make a good go of it

Big step up for Rodgers in expectation level but should cope at #lfc if given time & money. Good man-manager, team-builder & club ambassador

More than anything Brendan Rodgers will need the whole club behind him and not fans grumbling if Liverpool aren’t top 4 after 12 games.

Sacked by Reading in December 2009 now set to be Liverpool manager in May 2012. That’s some rise for Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool FC have named Brendan Rodgers as manager. I feel this could be a very shrewd appointment. Totally gets the way the game’s evolving
