Brash And Bold : 13 Left To Play

By Kipper @pghsportsforum

Thirteen games left to play and the Pirates are only 3.5 games back in the Division Race. This is an exciting time to be a Buccos fan. Remember, it wasn't that long ago that baseball was completely over in Pittsburgh once September hit. Heck, it wasn't that long ago when baseball season ended in August when Steelers Training Camp began.
The Pirate also seem to be peaking at the right time. They have won 8 of their last 10, their bats are strong, and their pitching is ranked 7th in the league. The only two things I don't like are A) The Bucs only have 6 of their last 13 at home. B) They don't play the team they are trying to catch, The Cardinals.
What will be the most interesting part of the last two weeks? The two series with Milwaukee and Atlanta, both of whom are biting on the Pirates hind ends for the Wild Card. And Milwaukee isn't out of the Central Division race yet. It'll be a fun two weeks.
So let's enjoy it boys and girls, and hope to see Post Season play. Heck, I'm not sure my heart could take that for two years in a row.
Cheers!! And Let's Go Bucs!!
Wait, I thought the season was over when the Buccos were 8 games under .500 back in May when Mark Madden said this team was done and the Smizik crowd was circling the Bob Nutting should sell the team wagon. The job that Hurdle did to keep this team focused, along with the pickups of Holdzcom and "the Strawberry" by Neil Huntington are proof that splash moves aren't necessary to make an impact. I'm very excited for the stretch run and seeing what the bucs can do.

Many of those sane people kept saying that Jordy Mercer needed to be shipped off for a used jock strap and that Edison Volquez wasn't worth anything.

I think that sometimes in May, the "Pundits" forget that there is still a lot of baseball left to play.
Part of the problem with this week is who do we want to win the Cards/Brewers series? We don't have very many division games (6) left to be playing catchup. Cards could move way ahead of us with a sweep. Brewers could pass us with a sweep. Maybe if the Brewers take 2? Not sure, the Cards have an easy schedule after this series.
If they dont catch the Cards, but end up beating out Atlanta and Milwaukee for the final spot, i'd be jazzed. Last years playoffs were very fun to watch, and the game against Cincinnati was perhaps the most fun I ever had watching the Pirates in the playoffs (and I was around for those painful years from 1990-92). I personally, dig the 1 game play-in for the wild card, and if the Bucs are back in that game, it will consume my day. To me that play-in game was the best thing to happen to baseball.
I think this year is going to be a very fun ride fellows. Get ready. They are just starting to peak at the right time. And Clint Hurdle is the freaking man. I remember in 2007, I lived in Idaho so the Rockies were our TV market, and so I did follow the team a bit during that period, and Hurdle did the unthinkable that year with that team. This guy is a proven winner! I'm jazzed, again that he's the manager. There is not a better person for the team, IMO.
The Pirates totally should have traded Starling Marte and some prospects for Jon Lester...has worked out well for the Athletics...

Maybe. However, the A's are eliminated, and the Bucs are still slugging it out. Hurdle's strategy seems to have worked so far.
