Bloomer’s Review

By Laura @BEBookworm

I must say, we Toronto vegans are so friggin lucky! Last week yet another vegan bakery/restaurant opened up at Bloor and Ossington. Bloomer’s. They have been around for a few years as a bakery without a storefront, has finally opened said storefront! Currently, it’s just a soft opening, and they are only serving baked goods and coffee and tea. IN the fall they will release their full menu. I can’t wait, since they posted a picture of an AMAZING looking sandwich, but for now, their baked goodies will tie me over.

On Sunday, my friend Nicole, Valerie and I met up to chat and snack on Bloomer’s offerings. Val’s so lucky that Bloomer’s is just a short walk from her house! However, *I* was the lucky one (and Nicole too) when Val surprised us each with a box of Earth Balance’s new Mac n’Cheese! So nice of her!

I was a bit disappointed they didn’t have any of their fantastic Icelandic donuts that I tried at the Toronto Veg Food Fest, but alas, they are still working out kinks with some of their recipes. I instead opted for a butter tart, a slice of lemon poppy seed loaf and a blueberry iced tea. While the tart was a wee bit under cooked, it was really yummy, as was the loaf. The iced tea was very refreshing.

I didn’t get any good pictures, but I also brought home some poppy seed bagels, a double chocolate cupcake and a pomegranate-chai-maple glazed donut. It sounds weird but the flavours work so well together! I was pleasantly surprised.

If you’re live in Toronto or just come for a visit, definitely stop by Bloomer’s. Great food, friendly owners and it’s really cute inside too. I can’t wait to see what will be on their full menu!
