Big Sur, California
With 2013 coming to a close it’s once again time for our annual retrospective. As with last year’s Best Of selections, we’ve combed through our statistics from the past year to find the posts you read and shared most often. And similar to 2012, the results are an eclectic mix of opinion pieces, travel stories, advice columns and photo essays (you’ll find links to the original articles in each of the headings below.)
Needless to say, 2013 was a great year. Here’s looking forward to an even better 2014.
10) Traveling Old School
Caught by surprise in Big Sur California without cell phones, internet access or even a plan, we traveled back in time and rediscover the “joys” of unplugged tourism.
9) The Oregon Coast in Photos
We condensed our month-long excursion up the Oregon Coast into one bite-sized photo essay.
8) Big Trees and Spooky Woods
There’s something humbling about being in the presence of creatures old enough to remember the Dark Ages, especially when they grow taller than the Statue of Liberty and thicker than a city bus.
7) The Rudeness of Strangers
We ponder what makes people we’ve just met feel so free to trash our hometown. In a related post worthy of a spot of its own on this year’s Best Of list we also explore whether New Yorkers are really rude at all or just misunderstood. Fugetaboutit.
6) How Much Does Long-Term Travel Cost?
It’s the question on everyone’s mind. We outline a practical approach to long-term travel budgeting that you won’t find anywhere else.
We’ll be back Monday to disclose the five best posts of the year. Until then, have a good weekend!
