Beauty Event: Met Gala 2013

By Bbeautylove @bbeautylove

Hi guys!

I always look forward to the annual MET Gala in New York as there are usually some amazing new fashion and  make up trends that I love writing about. The theme was punk and I had high hopes for this year’s turn out. However, amongst a sea of contrived ‘punkness’ i.e pink streaks in the hair, fake nose rings and spikes, I have to say there were a lot of new make up trends that did get me excited.

So even though the fashion was a major let down, let’s immerse ourselves in the glamour that was the Met Gala…

Trend #1: Bleached Brows

Although the bleached brow is not particularly associated with the punk movement, there were a lot of starlets showcasing this trend last night. Whether bleached especially or blanked out just for the night, it was all about the light brow. Now this isn’t the easiest look to pull off, but if you manage to get the balance right with the rest of your make up, it can look pretty fresh! My picks? January Jones (more of her later), Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Trend #2: Extreme Eyes

Yes, celebs decided that to be ‘punk’ you had to have crazy eye make up, whether a mish-mash of colours or odd shaped eyeliner, it was all about the eyes. Some opted for full on, slightly daring shapes while others kept it safe and just winged it out a little further usual. January Jones rocked a daring geometric eyeliner with her bleached brows, Jessica Hart looked more like Catwoman but my favorite has to be Ginnifer Goodwin whose extreme shadow/liner block eye make up was awesome! Totally unwearable in the everyday but really inspiring! Others added color into the mix with Emily Blunt opting for a wash of fuchsia and Elle Fanning working blue and pink together in a smudgy almost unkempt haze around her peepers.

Trend #3: Barely There

In a total contrast to the glamour of the evening, but in keeping with the punk theme, lots of ladies pared back their looks and took the less is more approach. Jessica Biel went so far as she almost looked ill, while Alexa Chung looked her usual perfect self and even Jessica Alba toned down her usual bronzed goddess look for the night.

Trend #4: Punky Smoke

There was a sea of smoky eyes on the red carpet and although most were your typical red carpet fair (I’m looking at you JLo!) some made it smudgier, smokier, darker and bigger than ever before which I rather enjoyed! My faves? Cara Delevingne, Solange Knowles and Diane Kruger.

My other favourites? Katy Perry’s chocolate wine stained lips, Gwen Stefani in her statement red lip and Kristen Stewart in a red haze.

Don’t forget to tell me your favorite looks from the Met Gala in the comments below.
