Be Sun Aware is a road show aimed to encourage people to pay more attention to their skin and to learn about sun damage and what warning signs to look for which might indicate a cancerous change. These road shows are open to anyone and the first two were in London yesterday and Thursday.
Vistors are offered a free face to face chat and practical demonstration on how to check your skin, also if you have any moles that you are concerned about they will check those out for you too.
Another part of the road show is that you can have your skin checked by a Wood's Lamp, which shows up any sun damage to your skin.
I jumped at the chance to get this done, it was really informative and I learnt so much about my skin.
As you can see my skin is a blue/purple colour, this means my skin is in fairly good condition, but it is a bit dehydrated.
I have a few white dots (between my brows and below my right eye) These are dry areas of my face. Around and on my nose you can see its a slightly yellow color these are my oily areas.
You can't see from this picture as the light has seeped through but below my left eye I had small amount of pigmentation that is under the surface.
I am glad to see that for the most part my skin is in good condition. (my skin obsession pays off, an excuse to buy more maybe?) I am really glad to have had it done as without getting the wood lamp analysis I would never of known about the pigmentation until it got worse and it appeared on the surface of my skin.
This way, I now can prevent this from getting any worse by making sure I always where high sun screen and exfoliating my skin.
I highly recommend everyone getting this done if you can, it is so insightful.
Lastly these are three models that had half of their faces professionally made up to illustrate the damage caused by skin cancer and excessive sun exposure. These were all based on real people and it was scary to see, especially when you compared it to the non made up side of their faces.
There is so much information I want to share with you from this road show that I have decide to do a series of posts on it. This is something that has really sparked an interest in me and I just want to learn more about it. Do let me know if this is something that interests you and if you want me to do the posts?
I have a couple of samples of the La Roche-Posay sun products to try out, so I will be back with a review of those after I have given them a thorough testing.
If you are interesting in learning more you can visit the Be Sun Aware website. Also the road shows will be at Isle Of White Festival, Latitude Fastical and Boardmasters Festival, so if you at any of those make sure you pop by.
Next week, (6th - 12th May) is sun awareness week, it is the trademarked to the British Association Of Dermatologists.
