If you are in Ontario then you will want to make plans to attend one of the largest information packed geo-spatial events in Southern Ontario on May 6 and 7. The URISA Ontario chapter will be hosting their 2013 AGM & annual ‘Be Spatial’ event at the Grand Olympia, in Stoney Creek (Hamilton)on May 7 with a preconference workshop on May 6.

The ‘Be Spatial’ event is a great way to spend the day with colleagues and networking with others who also work with spatial data, applications and geo-solutions in Ontario.

Who Should Attend Be Spatial?
Managers - Knowing what technologies are coming, how to use them in an enterprise approach, and what strategies your counterparts in other organizations are adopting is crucial to keeping up with GIS products and services, and understanding how to effectively deploy spatial solutions. ‘Be Spatial’ offers an opportunity to talk directly with your colleagues about their wins and pains, which in turn allows you to streamline your own implementation processes.

GIS Practitioners Understanding when, where and how to effectively utilize spatial solutions and tools, and learning from the successful examples of other organizations is an ideal way to develop and nurture your own skills and knowledge. Reading about a solution in an e-magazine only goes part way; talking to the colleague who implemented a solution allows you to ask the questions that will draw the complete the picture. ‘Be Spatial’ gives you that access, allowing you to meet and discuss ideas with colleagues from across Ontario.

The special preconference GISP certification workshop is free of charge for people who register before April 19, 2013. It is designed to assist those professional that are interested in applying for GISP certification or renewing their existing certification. Topics include why why you would want to your GISP, what it takes to become a GISP as well as tips for putting together a successful application package.

It will also be a good opportunity to learn about upcoming changes to the process and requirements and have a chance to work together with someone who has already gone through the GISP process. If you plan on attending this no charge event then remember to bring all documentation that you have to the workshop for review during the one-on-one session.

Be Spatial’13 will also include an Exhibitor Program, Solutions Sessions, Marketplace Exposition, Project Showcase and the MApps (Maps and Application) Gallery. There will also be plenty of awards and prizes to give away with an Early Bird Prize, Great Door Prizes, Exhibitor Sponsored Prizes and the Best GIS Challange Awards (to recognize members for their contributions to the geospatia industry and the community at large).
