BOOK RELEASE: The Body Image Survival Guide for Parents: Helping Toddlers, Tweens, and Teens Thrive
What do I tell my daughter when she asks me if she’s fat? Why does my nine-year-old son want six-pack abs? How do I keep my own body image issues from negatively impacting my daughter’s self-esteem? Children as young as six years old are feeling pressured to live up to the unrealistic physical ideals they see in images all around them. As a result, they are putting their health at risk by engaging in dangerous behavior in hopes of attaining these unrealistic bodies, while their parents stand by feeling incredibly powerless.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
Marci Warhaft-Nadler tackles the tough questions that you and your kids face as they negotiate aspects of body image and self-esteem in a world filled with adverse messages. Marci’s personal battle against her own severe body image and eating disorder issues sent her on a mission to empower parents with the tools they need to help their children avoid the trauma she couldn’t. She speaks from the heart with straightforward and savvy advice. One of the hardest things about her battle with Anorexia Nervosa and then binge eating was watching the impact it was having on her family. As a teenager, it was extremely difficult to deal with seeing how her pain was causing even more pain for her mother, and then as she became a mother while still severely struggling, it was excruciatingto feel like her kids were being cheated out of the type of mother they deserved to have. Her battle and ultimate recovery now fuel her need to change the way kids feel about themselves and help parents be the best role models they can be.
Her new book, The Body Image Survival Guide for Parents: Helping Toddlers, Tweens, and Teens Thrive, will be released on February 14, 2012 (a day to share your love with others and with your body!) is filled with hands-on tips and activities, real questions and answers, helpful internet resources, body image pledges, and warning signs of dangerous behavior to make it the ultimate body image guide for parents of kids of all ages.
